Hurst Formally Takes Charge at Town
Monday, 18th Jun 2018 09:49

New Town manager Paul Hurst will formally take charge at Portman Road today.

The 43-year-old former Shrewsbury boss was appointed at the end of May but was initially away on a family holiday in Dubai and then spent last week continuing an LMA Football Diploma. Coincidentally, Blues U23 coaches Chris Hogg and Gerard Nash, Bryan Klug’s caretaker-assistants in the final four games of last season, were also on LMA courses last week.

Although today is officially his first day, Hurst has already begun work at Town having said he has watched videos of the Blues’ games and spoken to owner Marcus Evans about the "slightly unbalanced" make-up of the squad - with wingers top of his list of summer targets - at last Tuesday’s press conference.

The squad are due to return to Playford Road for testing on Friday before pre-season preparations for 2018/19 get into full swing next week under Nathan Winder, who was appointed the club’s new fitness coach last week. A number of the players returning from injury will already have been spending time at the club.

Meanwhile, Framlingham-based pop star Ed Sheeran wore a Town shirt during the final two songs of his concert at Wembley last night.

Sheeran, 27, watched the Aston Villa game at Portman Road at the end of the season also wearing a Blues shirt and has said he would like to play at Portman Road at some stage.

Marcus Evans - you need to keep this guy sweet. Shirt sales will go through the roof if he keeps pulling stunts like that.

Hats off to Ed Sheeran. At wembley the day before England kick off a World Cup and he wears a Town shirt rather than the easy popular option.

Rozeeboy, you are spot on, this lad can bring in some serious revenue, let's face it, he even made ginger fashionable!

I was there Thursday, he didn't wear it for me.
When I say me, I obviously mean the Mrs.
I've heard he likes to play on the wing.

Feck me,not a fan of his music, like the heavy stuff, I did not realise he was so popular, did he fill Wembley on his own or was it a festival?
He`s a good lad,the pic of him giving the finger to the scum made him a legend.
Great to see a local lad doing so well.

trncbluearmy - my wife and daughter went to see him Saturday night. He has a couple of support acts, but filled Wembley for four consecutive nights. You might say he's a little popular!

I agree that we are short of wingers, but centre-back is also a glaring problem. We only have two. Chambers is dedicated but ageing and Webster is talented but injury prone. The youngsters are too inexperienced for us to rely on. Spence and Knudsen can cover, but they are cover not long-term answers. Really, we need to sign at least one, probably two, experienced centre-backs or we will struggle.

One guy in a Towen shirt can fill Wembley more than any amount of budgies

They need to make a special size Ed Sheeran shirt with EACH as sponsor just for him. Wearing the new magical vegas top might raise a few ethical questions related among his younger fanbase, which may be why he wears an older one.

I wonder whether if we started looking for a new sponsor after this added exposure, we may have got 1. A much better deal and 2. A different ' calibre' of shirt sponsor.

Ps. A warm welcome to Hurst.

Evans must be absolutely beside himself, that's the value of his sponsorship spend in one hit.
