Carabao Cup Draw on Friday Morning
Monday, 11th Jun 2018 16:33

The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup will take place on Friday in Vietnam at 10.45am UK time.

Steve McManaman, Louis Saha and Dennis Wise will take part in the draw which is regionalised but not seeded as in previous years a number of changes having been announced last week. The ties will be played in the week commencing August 13th.

Explaining the draw taking place overseas, as was the case on a number of occasions last season, EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said: “A principle aim of our partnership with Carabao has always been to promote the competition internationally taking high-profile activities such as the competition draws overseas to support the EFL’s international growth strategy and raise awareness of the competition in Carabao’s key territories.

“There is no requirement for us to take draws overseas but there is an absolute commitment to building the value of our competition outside the UK and the market in Vietnam should help the EFL and Carabao meet our shared ambitions.

“The round one draw is always significant mapping out the opening stages of a competition that continues to attract a large audience at home and abroad with almost 1.5 million people attending Carabao Cup matches last season and games shown across the world in over 150 regions.

“At the EFL’s recent 2018 Summer Conference clubs voted to a number of rule changes in the Carabao Cup including the removal of extra-time which should help address team selection and additional fatigue issues that can sometimes be caused when midweek ties go beyond 90 minutes.

“Seeding arrangements have also been removed from the first two rounds which should make for some interesting early round draws.

“We’ve had some great finals in recent years with the country’s biggest clubs showing their appetite for success in the competition
and I look forward to seeing how the 2018/19 edition unfolds from here on in.”

Carabao Energy Drink CEO Sathien Setthasit added: “In the last 12 months Carabao Energy Drink has truly established itself as a global soft drinks brand and the success of our partnership to date with the EFL has played a big part in helping us develop our international footprint.

“The 2018/19 Carabao Cup promises to bring football fans around the world plenty of drama and excitement which is why we’re looking forward to kicking off this season’s competition in style by staging the first round draw in Vietnam.”

theinbetweener - No, it's not always this early; it's usually around midday!
Seriously, it usually coincides around a day or two with the league fixtures.

1) Looking forward to the first Vietnamese player to sign for Town. 2) Don't see anyone in the South Section that we need to be afraid of. 3) COYB!

Maybe a strong U23 team to be played in this competition, including 1st team squad players in that age bracket? BUT a full 1st team picked for The FA Cup?
It's just a thought for discussion.
Promotion is our main aim, a Cup win would be great, we haven't had one for a while, but we had a tradition in The FA Cup, so perhaps attack two fronts and let the younger players do their best in The Carabao Cup?
