Town skipper Matt Holland and his Irish team-mates will share a £1.5 million bonus after qualifying for the last 16 of the World Cup. Ireland are likely to meet Spain in the next round on Sunday in Sujon, South Korea.

Ireland received £3 million for finishing second in Group E with the FAI receiving half. The Association will also make cash from increased commercial revenue after the success of their side.

Manager Mick McCarthy is also looking as if he'll benefit from his side's progression, with the FAI keen to discuss a new four-year deal. FAI general secretary Brendan Menton says of the former Millwall boss: "Mick has proven his worth as an international manager once again.

"He got Ireland out of the toughest qualifying group possible to get us here and now he has beaten the African champions to a place in the second phase.

"What more does he have to do to prove he is one of the best young managers in the business?"

The Irish squad flew to Seoul from Tokyo today in readiness for Sunday's second round game.
