Woolfenden and Folami Make Full Championship Debuts at Reading
Saturday, 28th Apr 2018 14:47

Luke Woolfenden and Ben Folami have been handed their full Championship debuts and Adam Webster returns to the side as the Blues take on Reading in their final away match of the season at the Madejski Stadium. Cole Skuse, Luke Hyam and Cameron Carter-Vickers miss out.

Woolfenden, 19, who was recalled from his loan spell at Bromley yesterday and whose only previous Town appearances were one start and one sub appearance in the Carabao Cup, is set to start at right wing-back with Webster in a back three alongside Jordan Spence and stand-in skipper Jonas Knudsen with Myles Kenlock at left wing-back.

Callum Connolly joins Tristan Nydam in what looks like a two-man central midfield behind a front three of Mustapha Carayol, 18-year-old Folami, who has made three previous sub appearances in the Championship, and Martyn Waghorn. Ben Morris, Barry Cotter and Shane McLoughlin are among the subs.

Skuse was ill earlier in the week and was considered a doubt, as was Hyam, who had suffered a knock. It’s understood Carter-Vickers picked up an injury in training yesterday.

For the Royals, who need a point to confirm Championship survival, striker Yann Kermorgant replaces midfielder Joey van den Berg, whilst Omar Richards takes over from the suspended Tyler Blackett at left-back.

Reading: Mannone, Gunter (c), Richards, Moore, Ilori, Swift, Kelly, Aluko, Barrow, Kermorgant, Bodvarsson. Subs: Jaakkola, Elphick, Van den Berg, Rinomhota, Edwards, Martin, Smith.

Town: Bialkowski, Spence, Webster, Knudsen (c), Woolfenden, Connolly, Nydam, Kenlock, Carayol, Waghorn, Folami. Subs: Celina, Sears, M Crowe, Gleeson, Morris, Cotter, McLoughlin. Referee: Keith Stroud (Hampshire).

Good! Youthful looking team; less reliance on loanees so a nod to next season.
Good to see Woolfenden start.
Reckon Hyam will be let go.

Despite losing another defender to injury, Chris Smith doesn't even make the bench : not sure the point in getting him back from Chelmsford.

Really pleased that e have finally given the youth at the club a chance.
This gives the young players invaluable experience, they will learn a lot as well as the club.
Even if we lose would like to see the same type of selection for the last home game too.

That's more like it, no pressure on them really. All they need to do is impress!
