Town Take Up Options on Bishop, Wright and McKendry
Thursday, 26th Apr 2018 18:50

Town have confirmed that they have taken up the one-year option on midfielder Teddy Bishop’s contract. The Blues have exercised the similar options on the contracts of young keeper Harry Wright and winger Conor McKendry but French defender Chris Goteni will be moving on.

Bishop, 21, has endured another frustrating season with a hamstring injury having sidelined him since Boxing Day having made just one start and three sub appearances during 2017/18 following on from injury problems in the previous two campaigns.

Keeper Wright, 19, the son of former Blue Richard, has featured for the U23s this season, for whom Northern Irish U21s call-up McKendry, also 19, was the top scorer with 11 goals.

Centre-half Goteni was signed on a six-month deal from Saint-Apollinaire in France in January, a spell which was effectively an extended trial. He has been told he will not be offered a new deal.

There is yet no news on midfielder Luke Hyam, who is also among those whose contract is up at the end of the season but with the Blues having an option to keep him for a further year.

Striker David McGoldrick's deal is also up but includes no such option and the Republic of Ireland international is expected to leave the club at the end of the season.

Town are certain to take up the one-year option on keeper Bartosz Bialkowski's deal with the Pole still to sign the new contract which was agreed in January.

Meanwhile, Lincoln boss Danny Cowley and his assistant and brother Nicky, who have been linked with the vacant manager’s job at Town, have signed extended contracts at Sincil Bank which run until the summer of 2022.

Yes to all those.

Teddy needs a good season tho.

So Cowley out. Jones out. Anyone else clenching at the news Keith Curle is moving on from Carlise to "Further his career elsewhere"?

Good decision regarding Bishop and McKendry, don't know enough about Wright to judge on that one, would love to see McKendry around the first team the last few games, all the u23s I've seen him just carries constant flair, very edge of the seat player.

Saw the news on Keith Curle and thought the exact same, but surely not. Carlisle sit 10th in league 2!! hardly pulling up trees, still Warburton for me.

I like the option of the u23 players but i think Bishop is just dead wood!! He has all the talant in the world and at 1 point was linked to big money moves away but hes sooooo injury prome i think we should of used his wage on a more consistent player!! But id luv to proven wrong and him to have a worldie season along with Dozzel and Humes in the middle!!

Fantastic news about Teddy Bishop, Wright and McKendry - this is a good time to push on for some time in the first team!

We all know there is a gifted player in Teddy, really hope that Lady Luck is kinder to him on the injury front.

Shame it didn't work out for Goteni - we wish you all the best and hope you find a new club soon.

I don't disagree with the options being taken up, but let's hope Bishop can stay fit. Good player, but last two seasons a wash out.

There will need to be changes this pre season, so wouldn't be surprised if Hyam was released.

Makes sense to me. I'm sure Klug advised the club on those in and out and I have faith in his judgement. Could be the last roll of the dice for Bishop so let's hope he can enjoy an injury-free period in order to get his form and confidence back.

Good to see the youngsters given a chance. Not too upset about Cowley bros although I had them as my favourites

I am happy with this, and hopefully none of those three are very expensive. Bishop deserves another chance after his injuries as he is still only 21, but if we has another injury ravaged season then it will be time to think again.

Hyam and McGoldrick (especially) are probably much more expensive and at their ages not going to get any better. I would be tempted to release them both to free up some wages for the new manager to use elsewhere.

I am glad the Cowleys have signed new deals at Lincoln as I had reservations about them coming here due to the playing style as well as lack of experience at higher levels. I would shortlist Cook and Mowbray (although I doubt their would leave their newly promoted clubs), Clough, Hurst and Warburton.

As MM used to say "if the Bish is fit he plays"

3 potentially valuable assets. Not to mention exciting to watch if it all works out. Hurst for me.

No doubt about it - Bishop has a huge season ahead now, if he spends most of it in the Treatment Room then he can say goodbye to a career in the game.

Some players are genuinely injury prone - some are just not up to the rigours of the game that run along side the preening,

Which is it Mr Bishop ? - either way, you could be looking at an alternative career.

Great news on Bishop, just hope he can finally get a run of games and get fully
match fit.A midfield of Huws,Bishop,Downes/Skuse and Dozzell sour be a match
for anyone.

Sky Bet have cut the odds on Shefki Kuqi to 5/4 and he's now the favourite.

No shock about Goteni, he's played really well in some games but also has the occasional "shocker"; too inconsistent perhaps. Sensible news on Bishop, injuries aside he's a really good player on his day. We are shaping up ok for next season but a lot depends on who wants to leave.

Agree with a few of the posts above.
Bishop is a quality player, when fit & with a run of games under his belt, but unfortunately we haven't seen that player in a while. The new manager will have a serious quandary to consider with our midfield; all are scheduled to be fit (currently) for the new season & if they come back having found a bit of form, they would appear to be a very competitive unit at Championship level.
We know Emyr Huws is a serious footballer, Andre Dozzell looked like he was going to be a superstar this season & Tom Adeyemi was a major loss, even though we never really had him available. He is the great box to box type that we missed for years imo. But there is no guarantee that any of them will play more than a handful of games next season given previous injuries. Throw in Bish, Flynn Downes, Tristan Nydam and Cole Skuse (squad player for me) and there is major competition for places. I would welcome contract offers for Connolly & Mustapha also, so if the medical staff give positive progress reports, we may not see/need many, if any new faces brought in to midfield.

Think the odds are on Kuqi because people will have piled a bunch of money on him after the Cowley's extension. Don't think there's much in it.

I still like the look of the Taiwan manager

Only logical decision.

Richard Wright.....ITFC new keeper coach ?

And yes SaigonTractor - Gary White for me too. No baggage, repeated success, works with what he's got AND IMPROVES THEM, English and connected to St George's Park. Be interested if Sheepshanks had something to say on him for ITFC....as a fan of course.

I see Barnsley will release Tom Bradshaw in the summer. We were interested in him during the January-window. Any thoughts on him? Would he be a good replacement for McGoldrick?
