Chambers: I'd Love to Manage Town One Day
Friday, 20th Apr 2018 12:45

Skipper Luke Chambers says he’d love to manage the Blues at some point in the future with his short spell working under caretaker-boss Bryan Klug having whetted his appetite.

Chambers, who is set to miss the rest of the season with the injuries he suffered at Brentford, was on the bench alongside Klug at the City Ground on Saturday and has joined assistants Gerard Nash and Chris Hogg as part of the temporary management team.

“Bryan and the coaches have had me in all the meetings and it’s certainly whetted my appetite going forward,” Chambers, 32, writes in his column in the programme for Saturday’s game against Aston Villa.

"I’ve said it before but having a look at the job from the ‘inside’, it’s made my mind up completely that I want to test myself as a manager.

“I’d love to have that opportunity here one day. It’s a great club. I’d like to think I have given good service here as a player and I want that to continue. It’s also a great place to gain experience and progress as a coach.

“We have an academy here whose job it is to produce players for the first team, why not have the structure in place to develop managers here as well?

“We have some really good young coaches here already. You’ve also got people working here like Kieron Dyer and Titus Bramble, who have had long careers in the game.

“Cole Skuse is another who wants to progress and move into coaching so why not have that avenue where players can move from playing to coaching here when the time is right? The club could be in a position to bring through its own managers in time.”

Genuinely has the right attitude towards the Club - what I like about this is, for all his close alliance with MM, he is showing the right signs of moving on without him - which of course he, and a few others, need to do.

Far from being the best defender around - but good players don't necessarily make good managers - so go for it Luke, give it your all - and who knows ?

Some sound talking from him, and his ideas, just have to be commended and encouraged.
Keep up the positive attitude Chambo.

Remember people - he was another player hauled out of their best position and effectively spoilt. Not all players are that easily converted to other positions / roles but carry on regardless - some never fully recover.

Another one of McCarthy's non credible traits, to add to a few others.

Why oh why are some people so negative on here, Chambers and Skuse are looking forward after they hang up their boots, no harm in that. I think Chambers has been a good for Ipswich Town FC he shows commitment and passion and interacts with the fans.

Perhaps in ten years time. Needs to work his way up into coaching first. Then develop those management skills. No better place to be a coach than at ITFC. Wish him well.

A world class player he has never been but a solid competent defender he has always been. ( let's face it have any championship clubs got a world class defender? No they are in prem or abroad)

I really rate him in the leader stakes.
He will be a top manager I have no doubt about it and would love him to stay with us.

He obviously cares about every team he's been captain under, so I'm happy for him to do so.
