Town Switch to 3-5-2 Against Canaries
Sunday, 18th Feb 2018 11:40

Town boss Mick McCarthy has switched his side to a 3-5-2 formation for today’s derby against Norwich City at Carrow Road with Adam Webster joining skipper Luke Chambers and Cameron Carter-Vickers at the back.

Dominic Iorfa comes in for Jordan Spence in the right wing-back role as McCarthy eschews his usual 4-3-2-1 system with Jonas Knudsen on the left.

In midfield, Stephen Gleeson is part of a three-man midfield with Cole Skuse and Callum Connolly with Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn up front.

Spence, Bersant Celina and Grant Ward drop to the bench alongside David McGoldrick, back after his knee injury. Sub keeper Michael Crowe was among the subs having got over the illness which made him a pre-match doubt.

There is no place among the subs for Freddie Sears, although the former Colchester United man was in the travelling party.

Norwich City, who also play three at the back, name an unchanged team from the one which drew 1-1 at Derby County last week.

Norwich: Gunn, Hanley, Zimmermann, Klose, Reed, Tettey (C), Leitner, Lewis, Maddison, Murphy, Oliveira. Subs: McGovern, Pinto, Stiepermann, Vrancic, Watkins, Hernandez, Srbeny.

Town: Bialkowski, Carter-Vickers, Chambers (c), Webster, Iorfa, Skuse, Connolly, Gleeson, Knudsen, Waghorn, Garner. Subs: M Crowe, McGoldrick, Celina, Spence, Ward, Hyam, Carayol. Referee: David Coote (Nottingham).

Beep...beep....beep...Bus reversing
5 defenders and 3 holding midfielders....REALLY ???
It is assumed the usual tactics then...Hold on for 70mins and hope to nick something.
I really hope I am wrong, but I fear for us today !!!

Why do we always have to match the opposition rather than take the game to them and let them worry about us?

I'm ok with this. Pick the normal formation and we'll get about 30% possesion. Keep it 0-0 till say mins and tick ward Celina and didz on....late winner? I hate playing Norwich!

5-3-1-1 I'm guessing not going to be pretty still fancy us to nick it 0-1 though COYB

Don't you mean 5-3-2?

We've got five across the back and three holding midfielders. Mick's playing not to lose, hoping an impact sub like Celina or Carayol can make the difference late on. That's if we can hold out that long.

We have two attack minded players on the pitch at least!! Ironically, this is probably our best chance of winning and we may well do that. However, this sort of negative set up isn't for me.

Definitely 5-3-1-1 (5-3-0-1-1)

He wants to win for the long suffering fans. What a joke. Wonder how long until he has to change it. Down to Bart probably. Mate just spent a fortune to attend. He is totally sick with this team selection.

Iorfa and Knudsen out wide as wing backs...not for me, we all know this will largely be 5-3-1-1

Draw for me.

Deffo looks like bus is gonna be firmly parked ffs. Why people call it a back 3 is beyond me, it is definitely a back 5 with a few defensive minded midfielders.
Just want this season to end and Mick gone!

We are not matching norwich. They play 3 4 3 with midfielders. We are 3 5 2 with defenders playing wing back.
Absolutely crap line up. I'm embarrassed already. They are an average side and we are lining up just to hope to stop them. Shows how far we have dropped as a football team. Mick out.

Norwich are buzzing that Celina is on the bench, had several texts telling me as much already as I live on the wrong side of border!

Leave out the fans favourite for the only important game til the season ends. Really taking the game to them aren't we?! F off now, Mick

I was hoping we would go for it... for once! ... also giving The Dino's sordid proclamation I"want to end your long suffering my *belooooved* fans!.
This here setup however is NEGATIVE HEDGEHOG FOOTBALL at it's very core! and with it it's extremely unlikely that we will end up *deserving* to win this derby, from any creative & offensive perspective that is!

Thus I'm afraid it's either us "nick'ing it" from them .... or them "stick'ing it" to us!

ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING, leave what few creative players we have on the bench and worst of all play IAWFUL, can only see one outcome today but hope I'm wrong. Can't this idiot see we would rather attack from the off and have a go, if we are going to lose which we normally do here I'd rather see us go down attacking than playing boring negative dull lump the ball football live on sky.

All those posting negative comments- what do you think of the first half, nullified Norwich and created all the chances so far. Yes we need to win and there is lots to do but support the team ALWAYS

Adam Webster... hang your head in shame lad. 7 seconds left of the game, all you need to do is chase the ball out. What are you doing?
