Skuse Fit But McGoldrick a Doubt for Sunderland Trip
Thursday, 1st Feb 2018 17:18

Cole Skuse is fit again but David McGoldrick is a doubt ahead of Saturday’s game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, while there’s good news on Tom Adeyemi, whose injury setback in the U23s is nothing too serious.

“I’ve got 19 of the squad up on the board today,” Manager Mick McCarthy said at his pre-match press conference, “And those 19 players are pretty good.

“Didzy wasn’t up because he’s not trained, he’s been injured since the weekend.

“Tristan Nydam, he played for the U18s on Tuesday, he was still feeling a bit tight, but other than those two and the long-term injuries, we’d got a good squad out. Didzy is a doubt, I would say, having not trained today.”

Regarding Skuse, he added: “He trained today, he’s all ready to go. Stephen Gleeson’s done very, very well and he’s done everything I’d expect of him in that holding midfield role, if you like.

“He’s a really good passer of the ball Glees, I’ve been delighted with him, but equally it’s nice to have Skusey back, who has been pretty much ever-present since he came here.”

Could Skuse and Gleeson play together in the same midfield? “Yes but I think Callum Connolly would have a real problem with me telling him he needs a rest, that might cause a right problem.

“I think if I said, ‘Listen, this is the team I’m picking, today I’m going with these’ then there’s no argument but if I said I was going to give him a rest I think he’d be banging my door down because he’s a pretty fit, athletic lad. I’ve not seem too many that look after themselves like he does.”

Dean Gerken remains sidelined with his ongoing hip problem which could require an operation.

“It’s not going away so we’ll keep on top of that,” McCarthy added. “We’ll see. Will it need surgery? Let’s wait and see. We’re just hoping he’s going to be all right whatever ends up happening.

“Michael Crowe is the back-up now, that’s the case and if he gets the chance. He’s not had any games though, so there may be somebody available, I don’t know.”

Adeyemi lasted only 34 minutes of the U23s’ 5-0 hammering of Millwall on Monday after he suffering an injury being quickly being subbed.

“Thankfully, it wasn’t as bad [as it looked], McCarthy continued, “He pulled up but I would imagine poor old Tom, he’s felt it and he’s just going to stop instantly. I think it looked far worse than what it actually is. That’s the good news. But nevertheless, he’s still got an injury.”

Cameron Carter-Vickers was back in training today having suffered a knock last Saturday and is expected to be fine for the trip to the Stadium of Light, where Town have never won.

Dominic Iorfa is available again having been ineligible against his parent club Wolves last week.

Emyr Huws, Andre Dozzell and Teddy Bishop all remain sidelined with knee injuries which have ruled them out for the season.

The team could be Bart, Spence, Chambers, Carter Vickers, Knudsen, Skuse, Connoly, Carayol, Waghorn, Celina, Garner. A strong team with good options going forward too. COME ON YOU BLUES!! Sadly I will not be going as I only go to the home games but will follow the Town on the radio.

........ in other words Skuse after one training session, straight back in - Gleeson out probably.

Another preserve the point we start with - from the off, yet again. And we lose.

Skuse will play. Others need match time but not Skuse. We have missed his goal threat. Gleeson will quickly learn that form does not come into it.

Seriously who cares anymore this season.
We're not going up, we're not going down; it's like being in suspension.

Surely MM has to set the team up to win this one?

Why are we still called Ipswich Town? hardly any of our own players are in the team.

Why wasn't McGoldrick sold rather than left to have his contract run down in the January transfer window?...that's money thrown out the window.

Excellent news, Skuse aka "the crab" is back.

Mcgoldrick wasn't sold because no one wanted him. Get him for free in 3 months

Didzy has never liked cold weather has he? Have you seen the weather forecast for the week-end?

I believe that statement says everything that is wrong at ITFC.
No matter how well some play there are others that just walk straight back into the side.
Put Skuse on the subs bench and give Gleeson a chance, he has hardly proved his fitness since he last limped off.
It is assumed as part of CCVs loan deal means he must play too, as I believe that this was the reason he was pulled back from Sheff Utd as the did not guarantee fist team football.

Oh shock amazement, not. Didsy is injured just after another failed transfer bid!!!

Bet he hardly kicks a ball for us between now and end of season. He wants away.

If there are actually any real football people out there they will realise what skuse does for the team, we are very poor without him actually. He may not go forward a lot but that is not his game, he breaks up play, calms things down on the ball and for people that actually go to these games will see the amount of times he has saved one of our poor defenders with a last ditch tackle. He will never be a fan favourite but he's a very good player

Rfretwell.
Away games are much more fun and went to some ridiculous places following the town in my youth. But Sunderland?! In the middle of winter?! To watch this team?!
Good luck my friend and hope that whatever you're smoking makes the journey and football a great experience 😁

April 2017, I believe.
Last time we won a game without Skuse in the team.

I once went to watch us with my Dad at Roker Park, we lost 4-0. A number of years later went with my Dad to the Stadium of Light, Marcus Stewart put us 1-0 up but we lost 4-1.

Should send didzy out on loan to Crawley or Aldershot or Luton if he can't be arsed. What a waste of space.
