Midfielder Emyr Huws has been ruled out for the rest of the season having undergone knee surgery. The Wales international was subbed at half-time during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough having suffered knee and hip knocks.

After the 24-year-old, who had only just returned to action following an achilles problem suffered in pre-season, saw a specialist it was revealed he had sustained a cartilage tear and he went under the knife today.

“Emyr has a complex tear of his lateral meniscus,” Blues physio Matt Byard told the club site. "

“It has been repaired and the average recovery period is around six months which means he will obviously miss the rest of the season.”""

Boss Mick McCarthy added: “It’s obviously very disappointing for us but even more so for Emyr. We know the quality he brings to the team and he will be missed."

The midfielder, who made three starts and two sub appearances after returning to action following his achilles injury, joined Town from Cardiff on a permanent basis in the summer for a fee understood to be approaching £1 million in the summer after a highly successful loan spell last season.

I guess the HOPEFUL me = Didsy back Sat, completes the rest of the season and Bishop can somehow stay fit, and revert back to 2014/15. What horrible luck we've had with injuries this season - really fed up of it!

Seasider added 18:00 - Dec 14 Oh dear !!!. As Currie says we have not had any luck with injuries,especially this season;and most of them have been long term. Unfortunately,think he is the most expensive player on the Town books;being the first one who has cost in the region of £1m. Wish him well for the future,on a personal as well as a professional basis ! More positively 'Colins' decision to sell him doesn't seem to have done Cardiff any harm,as last time I looked they were 2nd in the Championship !

Without Andre Dozzel available, I agree with others on here that this is time for the Bishop to make a series of starts. It will either be the making or breaking of his Town career. Mark added 18:37 - Dec 14 Oh no! Just when we thought the wait was finally over and we'd get to see Emyr. Awful news for him, the club and the fans. Our central midfield really is cursed recently with the injuries to Huws, Dozzell, Adeyemi, Hyam...let's hope Bishop at least can get back.

Or simply that we recruit players who have a suspect injury record and are therefore offloaded cheaply - hence why we can afford or get them in? Whatever the likes of Bishop and Adeyemi need to get their fingers out and get up to speed or our season will be over cos I doubt Evans will be handing a departing manager any money this window.

Our 'squad' will keep us in the Championship but only the likes of Garner, Waghorn, Huws, Webster etc will get us out. As someone else has said, boys step up...

blueboy1981 added 20:19 - Dec 14 ....... really awful news this, for player and club - however, lets not dwell on the number of injuries this season, all clubs have them. The realisation is only with the club concerned - otherwise hardly noticed, or concerned - so let's not think we are the only club affected by such bad luck. The difference may well be that many clubs have adequate cover for such occurrences.
