Moore: I'm Playing the Best Football I Have Ever Played
Monday, 13th Nov 2017 09:36

Striker Kieffer Moore says he’s playing the best football he has ever played and would be happy to stay with loan club Rotherham United for the rest of the season if the Blues don’t opt to cut his spell short in January.

Moore netted a last-gasp equaliser as the Millers drew 1-1 away against South Yorkshire rivals Doncaster Rovers in League One on Saturday to take his tally to 13 league goals for the season in only 16 starts and one sub appearance.

The 25-year-old is not just the highest scorer in League One - ahead of ex-Blues Brett Pitman on 11 and Jack Marriott with 10 - but the top four English divisions.

Town boss Mick McCarthy recently indicated that he is likely to bring Moore, who he signed from Forest Green Rovers for £20,000 in January, back to Portman Road when the transfer window opens.

“Of course I would be happy to stay,” Torquay-born Moore told the Sheffield Star. “It’s out of my hands. I don’t really have a say in it.”

Why does the 6ft 5in tall frontman feel he has had such a prolific spell with Rotherham? “It’s a culmination of everything - great staff, great manager, great everything.

“I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t have the support or the assists I am getting. I am striding with confidence and I believe I am playing the best football I have ever played.”

Regarding his current standing as England’s top scorer, he added: “Yeah, it’s all right! I am enjoying my football, enjoying scoring goals. Hopefully it continues.

“It is always good to get something out of a local derby. When you score in the last minute, it feels like a win. There is always the thought that it’s not our day, but we just needed to keep going. I believed we were going to get something out of it and we did.”

Millers manager Paul Warne felt Saturday’s opponents largely kept Moore quiet: “He got marshalled really well by Doncaster. I was impressed with their defensive unit. Kieffer didn’t have a great deal to do, as in chances, but his work ethic is always there.

“He takes a battering. I am always defending his case with the fourth official because the opposition always put someone in front of him to block him off.

“He is a brilliant kid. Obviously I would like to sign him. Wherever he ends up, he will be a great acquisition for someone, and I wish him all the best.”

Moore is contracted to the Blues until the end of the season with the club having an option to keep him for a further year.

If he comes back full of confidence could be just what we need.

I think this is the relative part.
“I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't have the support or the assists I am getting.
See him back in the 2nd half & who knows?

I'm disappointed in his attitude, he obviously isn't very confident if he doesn't personally believe he can perform for the Blues like he is at Rotherham.

I'd have hoped he would of been determined to fight for a first team place in January and want to do well at the highest level possible.

Oh well, leave him there until end of the season and sell him, buy a good centre half and right back.

Bluetit - where did he say that ? Think you either misread or making huge assumptions

@Dozzells_Bobblehat

Huge assumptions .... Bit dramatic but in answer to your question, he hasn't stated anywhere that he wants to come back to fight for a place in the first team, that's the point i'm making. We need players performing at Ipswich Town Football Club.

Absolute nonsense bluetit. Imagine if he had said he wanted to return and then he didn't? Would that go down well with this current employers? He has shown a great attitude going on loan in the first place, rather than picking up a wage here. Well played KM - hopefully see you in a town shirt soon.

@Chrisswailes

I'm sure Rotherham would be over the moon if he stayed until the end of the season regardless of him wanting to perform well at Ipswich and perform well at a higher level.

Nonsense is assuming Rotherham would be offended if he said he wanted to fight for first team football at Ipswich in January.

Also @Chriswailles

I personally do not care if Rotherham were offended, they're lucky to have him and as mentioned above the point I'm making is that I want him to be banging in goals for Ipswich Town.

Well said Bluetit. Would Man City give a damn about us if they took Celina back? The priority of any player should be his home club unless they make it clear that the loan is the prelude to a move.

No point bringing him back will knock his confidence and we dont need him at the moment

If you bring him back, then you have to play him while he is in form, otherwise leave him where he is till the end of the season.

Garner has done very little in the past 10 or so games so it would be great for him to come back in this form and break into the first team.

If Mcgoldrick hasn't signed a new contract by Christmas I would bring him back. However if Mcgoldrick stays and leaves on a free at end of season allow him to stay at Rotherham. Think MM will always play Garner (done nothing last 7/8 games) and Mcgoldrick, with Waghorn and Sears Moore will not get a starting place every single week, he would be better having a full season at Rotherham and return at the end of the season and start fresh next year under a new manager.

At present has a manager who knows how to play him.
Bring him back and tell mcgoldrick to find another club if he wont sign

I'd argue that Garner has not done nothing or very little. He may not have scored but he's been a right pain for defenders and definitely helped others who've scored.

bluetit .......! very apt.

Shame this story doesn't mention that McCarthy hasn't spoken to Kieffer since he went on loan. I think he should be offered a new deal and allowed to stay at Rotherham till the end of the season. Then he'd be able to start next season all guns blazing.

..... stay where you are Kieffer, and keep scoring - the worst thing that could happen to your prolific scoring this season, is for you to be recalled back to operate under the Dinosaur in January.

The service Kieffer is getting is, and never will be, part of MM's remit within the game.

Harry Kane would struggle to get double figures in a season, playing for McCarthy.

Here's hoping for Kieffer's sake, he stays where he is at Rotherham.

blueboy1981 added 15:50 - Nov 13
Can't believe these people who think they know the game - making issue of Garner 'doing nothing recently' - he has the same problem as any striker would have under the Dinosaur - no service of the type required to do the business.

SIMPLE - wise up people - and see it AS IT REALLY IS.

blueboy1981 added 15:57 - Nov 13
......... a pit pony prepared to run through a brick wall, is all MM can see as important in a player.

Step out of your dream world - all you who think this man will ever be any different.

Good job Waghorn,McGoldrick and Celina are doing the business for us in front of goal...could you imagine the stick McCarthy would be getting for letting Moore,Pitman & Marriott go with 34 goals between them this season.

I say leave Moore there for the season.

blueboy1981 added 16:11 - Nov 13
Moore, Pitman, and Marriot - all on double figures .... !!! Cannot be ignored.

It should tell you all about our MM and his style of play.

The criticism of Mick is astounding given those doing it probably all slagged the signing off at the time. £20k for a guy who's banging them in for a league one side is a great spot. I recall the Mick haters were very unimpressed when he signed and with his performances. If we sell him I suspect we will be getting £500k plus or possibly a great addition to the squad for the second half of the season due to kicks decision to loan him out to get experience.... he had very little at league one level before .
