McCarthy: League One Top Scorer Moore Likely to Return to Town at Christmas
Thursday, 26th Oct 2017 15:33

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says striker Kieffer Moore is more likely to return to Portman Road at Christmas than continue his loan spell with Rotherham if he continues scoring goals. The 25-year-old is the top scorer in League One having hit the net 11 times in 14 starts and one sub appearance.

Along with right-back Josh Emmanuel, the former Forest Green Rovers man is on a season-long loan at the New York Stadium but with Town able to cut their spells short in January.

Millers boss Paul Warne said recently he would speak to McCarthy regarding his plans for Moore this week.

Asked whether that conversation had taken place, the Blues boss said: “My intention when I sent Kieffer out was to certainly get him games. It was unfortunate for him last year because he came into a team when we weren’t playing well, so he didn’t play well himself.

“On the back of having to come into a team that’s not exactly ripping it up, that was tough for him.

“He went away in pre-season and came back a lot fitter, he’s done really well at Rotherham. I saw him play at Wimbledon and we’ve had him watched pretty much every game. He’s scored some really good goals, gets in the box.

“So, the intention was to send him out to see whether he could get games and score goals and then we’d take a view on it. And that’s still the same.

“But, of course, the more he’s scoring goals, the view is that he’s more likely to come back here at Christmas and see whether he can replicate it in the Championship. And that’s my intention, that’s always been my intention.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy says Everton haven’t shown any frustration regarding loan defender Callum Connolly’s lack of action since joining the Blues on loan. The 20-year-old has made only two starts since joining Town on loan for the season on deadline day.

“I speak to Joe Royle, Joe would come and watch and he contacts me most weeks and asks me if he’s playing. I think he would come and see him or send somebody else,” McCarthy added.

“I’ve not had any complaints from them, I don’t leave them out of the side if they’re the standout best player, that’s for certain. But he’s done very well, he’s settled in and he’s doing really well in training.”

Couldn't ask for a more successful loan spell for Moore, bit of a no-brainer taking him back to be fair. Good cover for Garner and a bit of a nightmare off the bench I would imagine for knackered centrebacks.

Surely Mick won't play this striker on the wing?

Honestly, we would be better off selling him or swapping him for a midfield general somewhere Or another centre back. With the right service, we have plenty of striking options. We had one lucky season adopting the big man upfront philosophy and bringing Moore back would likely be another step backwards for our 'style' of play.. irrespective of how well he might be doing. Does anyone believe a tall strong centre forward is our priority?

What we really need is a top class midfielder with vision.!🤔

Toronto - if MM's the manager then having a 6"6 striker is an important component of his style!

We should have 2 or 3 huge strikers in the squad - if Garner gets injured we're back in long ball to Pitman land.

Credit to Mick for signing him tbf.

Coming back at Christmas could be a good move for our club however it could be a lousy move for Moore unless we have had the foresight to get shot of McCarthy by then.

...... don't fool yourself people, Mick McCarthy isn't capable of playing the style of Football that Kiefer needs,
and is currently getting at Rotherham.

After which all of you calling for his return, when the Goals were not forthcoming, would be crucifying him saying he was not up to Championship standard - which would be nothing but a load of rollocks.

If McCarthy was capable of getting goals out of him - why did he not change his style of play to suit him when he was here ? - instead of pushing him out on loan ?

Another player wasted if he comes back - mark my words for when / if he returns.

He'd return and sit on the bench if he's lucky.

I think we'll bring him back, which is a shame with the current team we're playing and realistically he would spend the second half of the season coming off the bench for 15mins when we're 1-0 down and need someone to cane balls at.

If we had any semblance of width I think he'd do a good job, but on how the side is set up I'd rather he stayed there and had a full season.

We could do with him in the town attack especially with the balls that Waghorn has been putting in the box, definitely someone that won't shy away from putting his head on the ball! Put Moore up front and move McGoldrick to midfield.

....... Swn98 - at least I get up, not so sure you actually do that - otherwise you may just be more aware of what's going on around you, and in particular Portman Road.

Swn98 ...... as usual truth hurts - one day you may just be man / woman enough to accept that.

In my crystal ball I see.... Moore returns in January, but at this point we are in a real relegation scrap hence McCarthy says it's not the right time to blood a rookie, but instead relies on his belligerent bunch of favourites... and maybe brings back 'Dougie' and 'Reg' on short term deals, to help us scrap to a 17th consecutive season in the 2nd tier.

6'6" shame we couldn't see someone this tall taking on the big defenders from Norwich, maybe we would have won some of those high balls.

The fundamental thing wrong with you bluebore is that you think your opinion is truth/fact
it is just opinion.

Good news Will have a few games by end of the month to see how he goes. If not good enough then loan him or sell.

As for Connelly he should play ahead of Iorfa IMO who looks better suited to the centre where his height is useful but then again I think Spence is better. Spence is always looking to play it forward to midfield.

So you are going to bring him back to a team that is a trainwreck in the making. any confidence he is getting will be destroyed by your awful tactics and complete lack managerial skill. just f off you retard.
