Norwich Striker: We're a Better Club
Sunday, 15th Oct 2017 20:41

Norwich striker Nelson Oliveira has turned up the heat under next Sunday’s East Anglian derby against the Blues at Portman Road by claiming the Canaries are “a better club” than Town with “better players”.

Portuguese international frontman Oliveira, 26, provided Blues boss Mick McCarthy with material for his pre-match team-talk having scored Norwich’s late equaliser after coming on as a sub during Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Hull City.

“I know it’s an important match for us and for the fans because it’s a derby, and we go there to win the game because we are better than them, we have better players than them, we are a better club than them, so we go there for the win,” he told The Pink ‘Un.

“I’ve played in a few derbies in Portugal. To be fair in every country I have been I’ve played in derbies. Even at Nottingham Forest I played against Derby, and that’s a massive derby as well.

“I think personally they are the games I prefer to play. I prefer to play in tough games over easy games because in easy games even if you don’t want it, your motivation is good — just not as good as if it’s a derby or a massive game. It’s the passion — and I enjoy playing in them.”

Oliveira, who has scored five goals this season, is yet to feature in an East Anglian derby having joined the Canaries after last year’s Portman Road game and been injured for the Carrow Road meeting, both matches ending in 1-1 draws.

Sunday's game, which kicks off at midday, is being shown live on Sky Sports.

Good for him, we could do with some banter ahead of this match to get some excitement into the game. The fixture has become spoilt over the years thanks to the midday kick off. Just need one of our lot - Chambers to have a go back!

How #itfc supporters can come on here and say he has a point is beyond me. Take up bowling old son. As for Olivera - i shall let my team shut him up next sunday.

I love it when players come out with this kind of rhetoric. They inadvertently put more pressure on themselves.

See you on Sunday, Nelson. Better bring your A-game.

@mucceletojoe For me it's obvious. In last few years they are better in every single aspect.

Chopra is a better striker than that streak. See you on Sunday, Nelson, bring a hot water bottle to keep you warm on the bench, and tissues to wipe your teammates tears at the final whistle. COYB.

If he's fit joe garner is going to have a field day winding up these idiots. And i cant wait to see it.

Tbf him and that maddison are good players, the rest don't bother me at all. Just hope we absolutely batter them. We will be behind the lads from the get go. Just hope we set out to attack a la against sunderland

He's actually done us a favour, just when we all needed a little kick to remind us how much we want this!!

Shame Hyam is not fit, sounds like he needs a reducer.

Seems a very odd thing to say from someone who probably has only played against a handful or our team. Sounds like a slow day on the news front perhaps.

Hopefully Luke Chambers has read these comments and kicks him back to Portugal. They have one more point and we have a game in hand so his opinion makes no sense anyway. No denying they've been a far better team than us for 8 years but this current crop are certainly not better than us. Bring them on.

Even if his comment is provocative, let's be honest chaps...they have been far better in most areas in the last 14 years..the record speaks for itself and they have changed according to how circumstances dictate whereas we are stuck with a monolithic and outdated manager who is past his sell by date and a non-existent president who has run the club down. Our much vaunted Ipswich way of playing soccer is ridiculed and even our youth system has been outclassed by them as much as it pains me to say it ..it is the simple truth.

I love the way the headline doesn't even mention the striker's name, just "Norwich Striker".

Great report Phil, Mick should pin this up in the changing room and team talk is all but done!

I'd say it's gonna be a close game. A deciding factor will be McCarthys team choice. Norwich will win if he puts out the same team that played Sheffield Utd. Vrancic is likely to be a starter and he's more skilful than that guy from Sheffield on the left-wing. Ipswich were exposed over and over again down that side and Vrancic will run riot if Iorfa is picked in that position. Often it's small things that make critical differences, and that battle in particular will prove crucial. If Vrancic is allowed to cross at will, Oliveira will eventually put one in.

Looking at the Norwich forums, most fans seem to expect a comfortable win; though they are concerned that they might pick up an early injury. The subs bench is a little light. Norwich fans are primarily concerned about Bialkowski's form and whether Garner starts. Forums also hope Iorfa plays instead of Spence.
