O’Neill: McGoldrick Seems to Be Fine
Monday, 2nd Oct 2017 17:32

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill says Blues striker David McGoldrick appears to be “fine” having undergone a scan on his hamstring injury.

The 29-year-old came off during the second half of Town’s 3-1 defeat to Bristol City at Portman Road on Saturday and was a big doubt for Ireland’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Wales.

However, the Blues frontman was included in the reduced squad named earlier this afternoon and O’Neill said he "seems to be fine" at a press conference.

McGoldrick was one of a number of players in the Irish squad to sit out training today.

"Seems to be" is a little unnerving! Really need to keep this lad fit if we're to be successful this season.

I think maybe it is David that has the form. He went off injured hence the scan. I would not like to see him break down for club and country sake.

I thought that when he came off, that would be the last we see of him for 6 - 7 matches. I still stand by that thought, just based on previous history.

ok for O'Neill to say he seems ok, he is not going to give a #### if he breaks down in training or play and we lose him for weeks or months. We have enough problems we don't need another one .

MM said David came of with a tightness in is hamstring, just because the scan shows it's fine means nothing. It would be utter madness to play with his record of injuries over the last couple of years. Use the international break to give him a well deserved break, David must realise he is more important to us than Republic of Ireland. If his hamstring goes he could be out for 3 months. Which happened to me when l used play football.

It's laughable that managers make these calls and potentially wreck a player's season. O'Neill and McCarthy have no idea but push on despite players and medical staff being inconclusive about whether there's a real problem or not. Caution is the better part of rash bravery.

Former Norwich City boss O'Neill. Very worrying.

This has been McGoldricks best start to a season in as long as I can remember. He is chasing everything, wanting the ball and making things happen even when we are second best.
It will be really annoying if he plays and gets injured for Ireland. Hopefully he'll declare himself unfit and realise his real loyalty lays with ITFC.

Hard to blame O'Neill when so many players develop "injuries" that coincide with international breaks, as long as proper protocol is observed. Ireland do have meaningful WC qualifiers to play, rather than pointless friendly games.

Personally, I'm sorry we're not playing on the safe side given McG's long history of injury. I'm fully expecting him to be out for a few weeks after the internationals. This is what always happens, so why would this time be any different? But on the other hand, you can understand why his international manager would want to include him if he "seems to be fine." It's the word "seems" that makes me suspicious.

International duty's like Subbuteo it seems to me. You lend your team to someone else and half of 'eml come back with their legs snapped.

You could put money on that he will come back injured and leaving us totally screwed for the most important game of the season in a few weeks!! it,s just gonna happen we all know it! stuff these pointless International breaks, they never do us any favours!!

Hope they treat him with 'kid gloves' as Ipswich would ; perhaps for first couple of days light training, and a place on the bench, for the first game.

If he is still ok,which we all hope he is,then he could play in the 'big one'against Wales ?

........ very capable and talented player - but fragile, and as tender as those gloves he normally wears... !!

International matches for him will never do us any favours.
