Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill says Blues striker David McGoldrick appears to be “fine” having undergone a scan on his hamstring injury.

The 29-year-old came off during the second half of Town’s 3-1 defeat to Bristol City at Portman Road on Saturday and was a big doubt for Ireland’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Wales.

However, the Blues frontman was included in the reduced squad named earlier this afternoon and O’Neill said he "seems to be fine" at a press conference.

McGoldrick was one of a number of players in the Irish squad to sit out training today.

It would be utter madness to play with his record of injuries over the last couple of years. Use the international break to give him a well deserved break, David must realise he is more important to us than Republic of Ireland. If his hamstring goes he could be out for 3 months. Which happened to me when l used play football.

O'Neill and McCarthy have no idea but push on despite players and medical staff being inconclusive about whether there's a real problem or not. Caution is the better part of rash bravery.

He is chasing everything, wanting the ball and making things happen even when we are second best. It will be really annoying if he plays and gets injured for Ireland. Hopefully he'll declare himself unfit and realise his real loyalty lays with ITFC.

Radlett_blue added 08:06 - Oct 3 Hard to blame O'Neill when so many players develop "injuries" that coincide with international breaks, as long as proper protocol is observed. Ireland do have meaningful WC qualifiers to play, rather than pointless friendly games.

I'm fully expecting him to be out for a few weeks after the internationals. This is what always happens, so why would this time be any different? But on the other hand, you can understand why his international manager would want to include him if he "seems to be fine." It's the word "seems" that makes me suspicious.
