On-loan Blues striker Kieffer Moore continued his early season goalscoring streak netting the only goal as Rotherham beat Northampton 1-0 at the New York Stadium this afternoon.

Moore, who is with the Millers until January but with the Blues having the facility to cut the spell short in January if manager Mick McCarthy wants to bring him back to Portman Road, took his total to nine for the campaign.

Th 25-year-old remains the joint-top scorer in League One alongside former Blues Brett Pitman, now with Portsmouth, and Jack Marriott, who joined Peterborough in the summer.

Rotherham manager Paul Warne was impressed with the way Moore took the 52nd minute close-range opportunity.

“I thought he did well, it was a good finish,” he said. “He could have had, possibly, another couple.

“We’re really pleased with him because he’s a great kid and he works really hard all the time. He’s just one of a great group we’ve got.""

“There’s no such thing as an easy goal but it’s good for Kieffer. I’m really pleased he’s playing for us. He’s leading the line well and when he came off he got a great ovation. I’m really pleased for him.""

“When I brought him in in the summer, I said he’ll enjoy playing for me because I’m an attacking sort of manager. We’re a bit gung-ho sometimes but he’ll always have loads of chances to score. That’s proved to be the case.”

Blues right-back Josh Emmanuel, who is also on loan with the Millers for the season, was an unused sub.

Elsewhere, midfielder Adam McDonnell played the full game and George Fowler the first 54 minutes at right-back as Aldershot were beaten 2-0 at Macclesfield in the Vanarama National League.

The duo, whose loan spells have been extended to the end of October, were making their sixth appearances for the Shots.

Central defender Chris Smith made the first start of his loan spell at Chelmsford City as the Clarets beat Weymouth 2-1 at home in the FA Cup third qualifying round.

lightingblue added 08:06 - Oct 1 Looks as though McCarthy has got a gem with Moore. Sometimes players just need regular games and slight change of surroundings to get up and running. Can he play centre back as well. Maybe needed.

Saturdays poor showing was due to a lack of creativity and bite in the midfield, if Moore had been playing he would have had the same issues as our current forwards, trying to create the chances themselves without the help of the midfield. Keep Moore on loan banging them in every week, and take up his contract option for next season, and we could have a cracking forward who appears to have found his confidence and form at Rotherham. If, as the manager says, they are creating masses of chances, then perhaps anyone up front would bag a number of them, even if he missed a lot of others that we don't get to hear about. On the other hand, if Moore is getting a lot of headed goals and creating aerial havoc at corners , then that might be an asset we are missing at the moment. That would be a change we could have on the bench, rather than more of same. Just surmising...

harlingblue added 01:30 - Oct 3 Moore was given only bit part starts last year for a very poor Town side. This year he has found form for Rotherham and is scoring all types of goals for fun. Yes it is at a league below us, but we bought him from Forest Green, and they are in a league below Rotherham. He should be given an extended contract as a Town player, as next season could be our chance of a promotion push, with a much younger, exciting squad.

blueboy1981 added 18:02 - Oct 3 harlingblue ............ you're absolutely right except for one thing - unless we have a Manager by then, who can, and will, play to his strengths - he is best where he is. McCarthy has proved (on several occasions) that he is incapable of getting the best out of players with such ability. Pointless exercise Moore returning - with McCarthy still with us.
