Skuse: I Had a Feeling I'd Score
Monday, 18th Sep 2017 13:32

Midfielder Cole Skuse says he "had a funny feeling” his 29-month goal drought was due to end prior to hitting the net during Saturday’s 2-0 home victory over Bolton Wanderers.

The 31-year-old bagged only his second Town goal in his 176th appearance and four years with the Blues three minutes after half-time, a strike which proved to be the game’s pivotal moment. His last goal came in the 3-1 victory over Cardiff at Portman Road in April 2015.

“I had a funny feeling I might get one. You could say I felt it in my waters!” Skuse told the club site, having been unable to speak to the media following Saturday’s match as he and striker David McGoldrick were chosen for drugs testing.

“It was great work by Didz and when he pulled it back I thought, ‘I’ve got to hit this’. It took the slightest of deflections. It would have gone in the top corner if not!

“It was an important goal. We struggled first half but credit to Bolton they played well. We improved in the second half and Didzy was great for us after the break.

“I thought he would score earlier when he cut inside the lad but he hit the burger van with his shot!

"It was a great finish for the goal though and it was a huge win for us. We’ve had a great start to the season and we’ve just got to look to keep it going.”

In addition to his two goals for the Blues, Skuse scored nine times during his nine seasons as a first-teamer with his hometown club Bristol City.

Must have been a pretty strange feeling, considering it had been 29 months since the last one.

Great to see McG back at the top of his form again after injury ravaged seasons. Really hope he does himself justice for Ireland going forward.

I heard on the radio someone put a bet on for us to win 2-0 and Skuse to score both. And he scored. Well done Skusey.

So apart from being a creative and goal scoring genius he's even a comic!

TimmyH - the whole interview is obviously meant as a joke, starting from a headline, his comment on deflection and Didz' hitting a burger van. Relax, he can't score but he is funny you have to give him that.

' lol Skusey you may have woke up that morning with a feeling, but score a goal ha ha ha, we will be looking forward to the next one , in your next orbit . You can at least now be sure of your place in the team until you retire.

Sam

I thought about that text after the match. I think I said that Skusey was due a goal in response!

I have to say I thought Skuse was one of our better players on Saturday, without the bonus of his goal.
He made a great tackle in the first half when the attacker was one on one with Bart, quite possibly saving a certain goal.
It is too easy for people on this site to lay a lot of the blame on Skuse; he's not in the side to score goals. His main job is to sit in front of our defence as a holding midfielder. Most sides have such a player. How many goals does Kante of Chelsea score and I'm not comparing the obvious greater talent of Kante with Skuse but their roles in the respective sides are obviously the same.
I was very disappointed with the way Mick set up the side on Saturday but Skuse did his job superbly.

RRanger.
Kante and Skuse have the same role. Rather different ways of going about it then.

So Skuse gets called in for a drug test after he scored. Coincidence...?!
