Goldson Move in Doubt After Brighton's Denswil Deal Collapses
Thursday, 31st Aug 2017 13:32

Town’s loan move for Brighton centre-half Connor Goldson has been thrown into doubt with Club Brugge defender Stefano Denswil's loan switch to the Seagulls having broken down.

As previously reported, Albion boss Chris Hughton wants to add another centre-back to his squad before allowing Goldson to join the Blues.

Denswil travelled to Sussex last night to - it was thought - complete the formalities on his switch but Club Brugge have now announced that they have pulled the plug on the move due to another player, Benoît Poulain, being unavailable for longer than had previously been anticipated.

Brighton are now likely to look elsewhere for central defensive cover ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline before they will allow Goldson to complete his move to Portman Road.

The 24-year-old travelled to Town this morning to undergo a medical and to formalise a season-long loan to the Blues.

Town are understood to have alternative targets they may look to if they are unable to get the Goldson deal done before tonight's deadline.

And yes...we do have one of the smallest squads in the Championship...but it's about quality not quantity. Signing players up just for the sake of it isn't the way forwards. We need the right players. PLUS the Goldson deal is far from over. Don't forget, we also have some very capable youngsters. Nydam did a great job at LB against Palace, and Wolfenden is pushing for a place.

I personally cannot stand all this last day nonsense..ok,we've been dragged into it due to the crazy amount of injuries we've got but on the whole this summer we've made good deals in good time.

If nothing happens hopefully it'll give some of our own kids game time rather than somebody else's.

The Transfer deadline day circus is another of Sky's monsters 💩

I wouldn't say it's necessarily all our eggs in one basket. We appear to have tried for other targets but they have fallen flat. Thinking of Hobbs, Olsson,

Why so much negativity the story actually states that "Town are understood to have alternative targets'.
We have conducted our business far earlier this year and done well. The injuries are an unbelievable one off freak that has led to this shortfall, most players coming in are likely to think twice as within 4-6 weeks they could easily be number 4 or 5 in the list of CB's behind Smith, Webster, Chambers, Spence, Knusden and if that is the case some clubs will not want them to come on loan and not get game time. I can understand the delays and links to other deals and last minute nature and will trust the club to do something about it. If at 11:00 this evening there is no signing then everyone has a right to express concern etc until then it smacks of moaning for the sake of it, pretty much like some sections of the crowd turning on Saturday once Fulham scored their second. Why people cannot support and encourage, be pleased with better transfers, better style of play, great results and second in the table is beyond me.

I rate Knudsen and Spence but shudder at the thought they might be our centre-backs for the next 3 months. We do need to sign one, if not two centre-backs.

Blueandtrue.... I wouldn't say we have not done as other clubs have done we let Berra , Taylor and Digby go three centre backs who played last season at certain times obviously especially Berra before we had signed anyone .Then we get one player in Iorfa and let Emmanuel go . Now we have a couple of injuries to injury prone players and we are on the rack defensively and MM has publicly spoken about this so everyone knows .
Most clubs keep hold of their players until they have someone in ?
We did the same last summer let Murphy go and then moaned that we were playing poorly because we didn't sign a replacement .
Hopefully we have more than just the one player lined up as the centre midfield looks low on numbers too

Taylor Injury prone. Digby no better than those out of position wing backs we are being forced to play centrally. Bera wanted to go. So letring them leave was pronably fair enough no?

At the end of the day we have am injury crisis of epic proportions. It is/was impossible to legislate for that. My point was really about people's eggs and baskets comments rather than those we let go.

Now, Sir Bobby Robson would ask Woolfenden to step up to the plate> Faith in your youngsters= success.

Mismanager McCarthy strikes again. Forget about promotion, current table lies. We are in relegation battle. Last minute loan is not a real replacement for Berra. If he wants to play 5 at the back, he needs at least two more quality CBs. If he wants Knudsen to stay in the centre than we need another left back.

Brighton just signed a defender , so does this mean Goldson deal is back on ?
