Town Announce Squad Numbers for 2017/18
Monday, 24th Jul 2017 11:06

Town have announced their squad numbers for the 2017/18 campaign.

New striker Joe Garner has opted for the number 14 shirt with the number nine vacated by Leon Best at the end of last season still unfilled. Another striker is understood to be top of Mick McCarthy’s wish-list.

Recently-signed loanee Dominic Iorfa will wear the number two shirt which was Steven Taylor’s during the second half of last season, while Bersant Celina has been given the 11 worn by Brett Pitman for the last couple of campaigns and Tom Adeyemi number 15.

That shirt was Adam Webster’s last season but the former Portsmouth central defender has switched to Christophe Berra’s old number six for the season ahead.

Emyr Huws is sticking with 44, while Danny Rowe is moving to 17, which leaves Kevin Bru, who has been told he can move on if he can find another club, currently without a squad number.

Youngsters Flynn Downes and Tristan Nydam, numbers 43 and 45 last term, will wear 21 and 22 during the season ahead.

Bobby. I'm guessing you can charge more for numbers on the back

Don,t get carried away, this only a mid table squad at best.

Squad looks small to me.

A squad of 24, 25 if you include Bru (it seems that MM doesn't want to).

That squad contains a couple of untested youngsters (Downes, Nydam), a couple of loanees (Iorfa, Celina) and a couple of injury prone players (Bishop, McGoldrick). It's not much to work on. We really need to sign Berra and Murphy replacements, but they will cost £1 million each plus wages so I'm not holding out much hope.

My first team from that lot would be 4-4-2
Bart
Spence Webster Smith Kenlock
Ward Huws Adeymi Celina
Garner McGoldrick

It's a good team, but not a promotion winning one.

@ipswichbusiness, sorry pal that team looks a bit lightweight to me! Far from good team, sincerely hope I'm wrong!

@warktheline - "concur, concur & concur" (lol) That team is as good as it's gonna get at this moment! Put 2 or possible 3 of the favourites back in and it's looking very grim indeed 'pal'

Don't see that squad being able to withstand too many injuries or suspensions in all honesty.

Bru not being given a squad number is a bit harsh as well.

I like the team Ipswich business but unfortunately Ward normally gets lost on the right and is at his most effective in the middle, hence I'd paly 4-3-1-2 with that line-up personally

Ipswichbusiness, also include Hyam in that list of sicknotes.

I am with you on that one @ipswichbusiness.
Unfortunately any team will have to include Chambers, Skuse and Knudsen if it is going to make Micks starting XI.
I think we have made some good signings but with 13 out (14 if you include Bru) from last season and only 4 back in then the options look limited.
The squad still lacks 4 quality 'proven'players as an absolute minimum to even think about challenging for a season

I guess finding that elusive no. 9 is just not that easy. Everybody wants one!

Ipswichbusiness - an interesting lineup and likely to be attractive to watch.
I agree with omission of Scuse but think he and Chambers will be inked in as starters, at least to begin with. Suspect that Scuse is the one under most threat given the midfield options that we have. MM's praise of Downes has been interesting and its a pity we have not seen Adeyemi yet. We know what Huws can do. Downes and Adeyemi are obviously the main threats to Scuse. If Scuse got injured for any time one of those two would have a great chance to take the spot. Interesting times ahead. Think that we are looking a bit stronger than last year but I would have kept Pitman if we are in fact to play more along the ground. Roll on 5 August......
