Striker Daniels Joins Lowestoft on Loan
Sunday, 23rd Jul 2017 17:36

Young Blues striker Declan Daniels has joined Bostik League Premier Division Lowestoft Town on loan.

The 18-year-old joined the Town youth set-up on a two-year scholarship last summer after a trial at the end of the 2015/16 season.

Kirkby-born Daniels was previously with Robbie Fowler’s Merseyside-based Fowler Education and Football Academy and Knowsley Youth, having been a schoolboy at Everton.

"We're delighted to take Declan on loan, I feel that he gives us another option up front and he's scored lots of goals for the U23s at Ipswich,” said Trawlerboys boss Ady Gallagher, who has also added 33-year-old former Fulham and Derby defender Dean Leacock to his squad.

“This will be a great learning curve for him, as with boys like Nico Cotton, this level toughens you up and makes you stronger. I think it's going to be a great experience for him and it's another solid, young addition for us.

“We appreciate Ipswich thinking of us when they were trying to get the lad out on loan and we have always had a good relationship with Ipswich in the past and I'm sure Declan will have a great time.

“He's trained with us and looks in good shape so we're pleased about that. I did speak to [former Blues academy and current Lowestoft defender] Travis [Cole] and he spoke really highly of him so he's a good character and at a good age to come here and we're hopeful that everyone will benefit from this move."

Great news. As an Ipswich & Suffolk boy, we love Lowestoft. I totally agree with TotalBlue - We should have a friendly Vs Lowestoft each & every pre-season, like we used to in the 60's & 70's....I remember as a lad that all of my family while on holiday at Pontins walking into Lowestoft to watch the game! Lovely memories.

Norwich played Lowestoft the Saturday before last to mark the retirement of Lowestoft's long-servinmg manager Chapman, at least I think that's what it was for. Lowestoft scored first but Norwich came back to win 1-5. You'd like to think they'd come to us to mark an occasion like that given Lowestoft is part of Suffolk. But apparently the town is split down the middle on their loyalties between Ipswich and Norwich. You'd hope we were making efforts in those parts perhaps in the schools and so on as it's a shame to keep losing these potential lifelong supporters to Norwich. A good start as any would be for the club to arrange to send a couple of players down to the Primary schools and build up a rapport by giving away a few freebies. Also, if the club were to give free tickets to a school even just once the ones that went to a match for the first time might be hooked from there on in. I do go to Lowestoft sometimes and I often see Norwich shirts being worn in the town so I do think we could be doing more to win hearts and minds in the Town. The fact they invited Norwich (instead of us) to celebrate what would of been a major pre-season friendly for them makes me wonder if we couldn't be doing more to reach out to that community.

Ipswich do some work in the area mainly through Kirkley & Pakefield but most of the school visits and training is Norwich and have to admit it from what I have seen with my step daughter its good and is winning the hearts of the kids shame they seem to forget we are in Suffolk but at least my kids and Grandchildren know who to support

Growing up in Lowestoft in the 70s early 80s was a great time to be an Ipswich fan - all those sad yellow and green faces at school! Nowadays there are far too many Budgies, but I was very pleased to be in Gorleston(that's Naarich heartland) last month in my ITFC shirt and saw another Ipswich top! Do need to capture the younger fanbase though! Come on Town!
