Away Ticket Price Cap Agreed With 12 Clubs
Tuesday, 18th Jul 2017 12:06

Town have revealed that 12 clubs have so far agreed to their recently announced away ticket price cap proposal.

Last month, the Blues wrote to their fellow Championship clubs to try to arrange a reciprocal price cap on away match tickets, which would see the Blues put a ceiling of £25 on away seats at Portman Road for a rival side’s fans if they agreed to do the same when Town supporters visit their stadium.

“We have received a very encouraging response so far and we have agreed a deal with 12 clubs,” Town’s director of retail operations, Lee Hyde, told the club website.

""“Some clubs have expressed an interest and want to consider it further before making a decision and some have yet to come back to us. That happens at this time of year with people away on holiday. At the moment, of the clubs we have contacted, only one has rejected the idea."

My guess is that Leeds isn't on the list

My guess is that Leeds would definitely be on the list, no? Surely if you support a 'big' team like them with a strong away following you are constantly hit with the "category A match" therefore pay higher away prices? I would have thought Leeds fans would welcome this? (i might have the wrong end of teh stick though)

I trust that they'll name those who reject the idea!

I bet Norwich rejected. If so can we sting them with £40 please Mr Evans?

I assume whoever has / will reject the offer will become clear. Be good to boycott their away game(s); unless it's our good friends up the road of course.

Apparently it's Middlesbrough who have rejected, if so fair enough, we host them on the final day so make sure to charge them double what they charge us :)

Yes @running gout, what if a club said let's do a deal for £20 away tickets?! Would Town then be the rejectors..?
2

runningout added 16:42 - Jul 18
would say we lower our price to £20 for said team for their visiting supporters

Blue_Poison added 16:56 - Jul 18
@runningout this deal is for clubs to charge us no more than £25, not for clubs to charge us exactly £25, so those who have said no will be charging more

I think Leeds will to be honest. Their new owner seems alot more sided with the fans than Cellino.

This is one of the best things Town have done in recent years for the fans and I reckon most clubs will sign up to the idea before the season starts. Anyone who doesn't will be hammered by their own supporters.
I also hope Town take advantage of selling more tickets to the likes of Leeds rather than restricting the numbers. Unless we start with a bang playing attractive football which encourages home fans to come to matches the stadium will be half empty. I would rather there were less empty seats and more noise even if it's the away supporters doing the singing.

think I've got it.. but if our first away game at Barnsley was 20 quid a ticket for example, don't see why we charge anymore than that for their fans when they visit us at PR

This is encouraging news. Hope Leeds will be one of the clubs that agree.

@runningout, it would depend on running costs of the club they may be able to get away with charging less than us. It could also be down to the amount of stewarding required for the away fans, some you could get away with very few, others you need an army to keep them in order so you would charge more per ticket to pay for the extra stewards.
However, with respect to the other clubs, accepting our cap will guarantee us charging no more than £25 regardless of the extra costs incurred, as a sort of 'good will' gesture.
