Dozzell's England European Champions
Saturday, 15th Jul 2017 19:06

Town midfielder Andre Dozzell and his England team-mates defeated Portugal 2-1 in this afternoon's final in Gori, Georgia to win the European Championships at U19 level for the first time.

Dozzell, 18, returned to the starting line-up, having missed the semi-final after picking up a hip injury in the final group game, and played the first 77 minutes before being replaced.

England took the lead through Aston Villa’s Easah Suliman in the 50th minute, however Chelsea’s Dujon Sterling netted an own goal on 56 to level the scores.

The Young Lions found themselves under pressure after the Portuguese equaliser but Manchester City’s Lukas Nmecha grabbed what proved to be the winner on the break on 68.

England held out in the closing stages despite being reduced to 10 men when Fulham’s Tayo Edun was dismissed for a second yellow card.

Dozzell will be pleased with his performances at the tournament, playing a deeper role than has been the case in the Town first team, and will hope to take his form into the domestic season when he returns to the Blues.

Have to agree anyone who can turn a story this positive into a negative is a morose dickhead.

Not many champ players even in the squad, we should all be delighted for Andre and it's as simple as that.

Excellent myth busting stats on p1 of comments

And the runner up prize goes to Blue & Tru. Most of the negative comments are aimed st the Dino, not at the young Dozzell!!

That's not the point though is it Cat.

This story isn't about Mick is it? Is he even mentioned in the article?

It says something about people when they need to hijack such a story to continue their keyboard war. I'm sure Andre would be thrilled to read all the comments about Mick at the bottom of a story against what is at this point is his greatest footballing triumph.

The comments should be aimed at Young Dozzell don't you think?

B&T - there are a lot of disgruntled posters on here, what story they choose to air there grievances too is up to them, my point is that if you do not agree with opinions should personal abuse be the way forward??, don't get me wrong here, I'm no saint, I enjoy banter at all levels, would I 'stoop' to calling fellow ITFC fans "dickheads", I hope not!.

Cat - can you learn the difference between 'there' and 'their'. Basic English.

@kirbmeister - oh dear!! if all else fails why not go down the good old patronising English language line. Shame on you!! This is a Football forum, not a Mensa site. Very, very sad!! and if you have a shred of decency you might just get that!

I stand by comment. I've been in the Mick out camp since Nov but hijacking this in that manner is behaviour of a dickish kind.... there are plenty of chances on here to air grievances about Mick and you'd think for once people might choose focus on Andres success.

Frankly if people are being Dickheads I will call them out on it whoever they are, being a Town fan should not exempt them from that and I find it hilarious that you have built your point on the basis of free speech in one breath and yet would deny me mine in the next.

The only point here should be well done Andre and the rest of the England U19 squad and it's really that simple.

Well done André and young England. I hope this is the boost to your career that you deserve. You've needed to beef up a bit and we can see that's starting to happen but there's a way to go yet. There's a few on here, me included, that can give you a few tips on putting on a few pounds LOL . Well done TWTD for that Jason Dozell piece. As a proud parent myself, I can relate to Jason's comments.

This is a good news story and needs to remain that way. It pains me but the amount of posters on TWTD that turn everything to the MM argument one way or the other is boring.

Well done Andre & here's hoping that a year older, wiser & fitter you get some good game time this season.

Well done Andre and the England youngsters a great lift for the country, now back to basics deep lying midfield play maker eh! now that excites me but he will have to spend the next 3 seasons at least on the bench watching a premier class idiot costing us loads of points before he gets a chance!! unless of course we have a new manager next season when the big mans contract is up and his proper blokes go with him.

Like almost everyone am proud of our under 19 European Champion's.
Saw highlights of 1st half on returning from Coggeshall; and 2nd half live.
Thought Andre was neat and tidy, and although an integral part of the Champions thought he had a fairly quiet game. However unlike Motty a lot of commentators today leave the watchers to follow game with out saying who has the ball,so will defer to the Guardian.
Like some feel he is not being given enough game time on the grass of Portman Road.Am not expecting regular starts ,but hope that this season Andre will be given more cameo appearances from the bench than previously which have been sparse of late !

I gave TWD a rest during the close season but so so sad to still find non season ticket holders giving their opinion of everything they dislike just to feed their prejudices. Fortunately there are a lot of decent folk out there who have balance about their team and the club's personalities.
