Departed Blues striker Brett Pitman says he has no regrets about joining Town, even if he admits the style of football didn’t entirely suit him. Pitman’s move to Portsmouth was confirmed earlier today, TWTD having revealed that the 29-year-old was on the verge of signing for Pompey yesterday morning.

“Maybe the style of football didn’t suit me down to the ground at Ipswich,” the striker told Portsmouth News after penning a three-year deal at Fratton Park, the clubs having agreed an undisclosed fee.

“But I enjoyed my time there. It’s a good club with good people and a good manager. It might not have worked out how everyone wanted to in the end, but I definitely don’t regret going there and I enjoyed my time at the club.”

Pitman, who moved to the Blues in the summer of 2015 from AFC Bournemouth, had hoped to join another Championship club rather than a League One side having been told he could move on in May.

“There’s not many clubs I would’ve dropped down a league for,” the Jersey-born frontman admitted. “I don’t see really see it as a drop down, though. It’s an opportunity to get promoted.

“I’ve had three promotions in my career and there’s no better feeling, so hopefully I can get a fourth with Portsmouth.

“It wasn’t geography which was the attraction, it was coming to Portsmouth and playing in front of big crowds.

“The manager’s spoken about how he wants to play and people will see that over the season. He’s got a great track record for promotion at this level, and there’s no reason he can’t do it here.

“I’ve played at Fratton Park before as an away player and you realise how good the fans are. That was an attraction, as was the project the manager sold to me. They were the main reasons."

Pitman scored 15 goals in 42 starts and 28 sub appearances for the Blues and was the club's top scorer with 11 in the 2015/16 campaign.

I remind people of Marcus Evans' 5 point plan: ‘To develop a team to play attractive and exciting football' While I was disappointed in Pitman last season, I still think he will score goals if a midfield create chances for him and plays it on the ground. I suspect we will regularly see the 29-year-old on the scoresheet for Portsmouth.

Only time he had any sort of run in the side was when he was up front on his own, trying to deal with long balls from on high. I think we'll struggle to replace him without spending a lot of money. A great finisher who would've done great off a target man like Murphy.

Lathers added 22:19 - Jul 14 Nah, he was OK as a bit part player for Bournemouth in their promotion year, but in a bang average team like Town, he got found out. Very immobile, no real pace and looks about 10 years older than he actually is 😂. Agree our style didn't suit him (who does it suit?!) and he will probably be half decent in League One.

I always liked Pitman and I don't think getting rid of him is the right idea. With the right players behind him not using him as a target man then he will score plenty of goals. The best finisher we had. We have to bring in a forward of real quality, and right now it dosent look like that is going to happen, but there is still time.

Brockleyblue added 12:10 - Jul 15 Brett always seemed a decent fella and so good luck to him down at Pompey, where I expect he will do well, I hope so. However, he never really looked that fit when he played for us and seemed too slow for the Championship, so I'm not surprised he has had to drop down a level. His lack of pace was even more of an issue when playing for us given that Didz isn't exactly the quickest these days.
