Hibs Boss Confirms Town McGinn Bid
Saturday, 8th Jul 2017 00:46

Hibernian boss Neil Lennon has confirmed his club rebuffed a Town bid for midfielder John McGinn last month.

The Blues were reported to have offered around £1 million for the 22-year-old Scotland international.

“We had an offer from Ipswich and it was nowhere near the valuation we have of the player and that’s the end of it,” Lennon told Deadline News.

Since that bid the Blues have signed Emyr Huws and Tom Adeyemi but could still be looking to add to their central midfield options with former loanee Ryan Tunnicliffe, who is a free agent following his release by Fulham, also on their radar.

There is more news of players we do not buy than players we do buy. Not much change from previous seasons........we recruit the absolute minimum of players and the cheapest.

We're making silly bids again too

Silly bids time again. We are always on the look out for bargains.....

Soon as it is over a £1m then we lose interest. If McGinn is a player that will make a difference and has a bit of quality, then expect to pay a little extra!

Big opportunity missed because of an under valuation and weak bid. This news has really tarnished this summer's activity for me. Outbid by Prestion - pitiful. We need players like McGinn. End of.

Chill out you lot. You don't go in with the first bid offering high amounts, test the water first. We may still put in another bid, who knows? With how this summer is going so far, I have a good feeling. Fingers crossed!!

How have we been outbid by Preston? McGinn is playing for Hibs on Sunday according to his own Twitter feed.

More likely we'll be outbid by Celtic who want him

Go in again and get a deal agreed, this is just the type of player we need to complete our midfield re-build. At this age you also have a resale value in the future too. Long term plans, not short sighted budget assembly please!

How many people moaning about lack of ambition etc have actually seen him play?

None would be a shrewd guess pragmatic.

Have some fans been waiting for a reason just to be negative again? I've never seen the lad play and in terms of centre midfield we have huws adeyami skuse Dozzell bishop needam. Ward can play there too. I don't think cm is our main concern. Another cb and winger and a striker for me.

This I the very reason I I'll not be travelling the 100 mile round trip every other week thi season to watch this lot.
If they can't be bothered to invest why should I?

Dozzell, Bishop and Needham owaing? This is exactly why we need a Mcginn type player. I've seen him play a few times. Very decent. Would add a lot. The missing piece for me.

Id rather use the money and bring in another quality striker maybe John Marquis from Donny!! We got a very exciting midfielder in Dozzel who needs to play!!

Do we really need another central midfielder, we already have 6 completing for 2 or 3 positions and that's without bru or dozzell, I believe that we need another left sided centre back, a winger and a striker and we are about there.

Key word : "reporter to". Who really knows? We might have offered 2 million and Pitman for all we know.
And who knows the valuation have? That could be be silly money.
And who knows what the player himself wants?
Lots of ifs in the real world, unlike computergames...

Never seen him play so hard to judge. A new quality striker has to be the priority. But I would love to see us get a quality midfielder of a similar pedigree of Matt Holland (he really stepped up when we signed him up from the Cherries - shows that real gems can be unearthed from league one and two) to relegate Skuse to be bench.

We never used to 'test the water' with a bid well under valuation, or maybe we did but until the deal is done nothing gets reported? He's 22 and highly rated by Hibs obviously, so as with Hugill we've targeted a player we want yet haven't shown real intent in getting him, now Birmingham are sniffing round Hugill and we'll miss out on McGinn...those two would have been big players for us..

Sorry ElderGrizzly. Finger slipped and hit the wrong part of the screen. Didn't mean to press the "down arrow".

Dozzell played about an hour last season, he isn't ready to run a midfield in the championship.
Bishop simply isn't good enough, and skuse is past his mediocre best.
Midfield is our weakest area ,it's where We have to strengthen if we want anything other than the dross we have had over the last 4 years.

Have seen the lad play quite a few times and he certainly isn't worth any more than £1 mill so if the club have bid around that and it's been rejected then I have no issues with that at all.

We have better here already. For what it's worth on Tunnicliffe, I think if used correctly this time and not shoved out left wing like last time, same with Tabb + Quinn he'd be very useful alongside Skuse in a 4-4-2. Sure, not a sexy CM however would allow Celina / Ward / McGoldrick / Garner more license to operate as an attacking front four and allow the full backs to bomb on.

Agree about Skues Midastouch;but will our great leader (sic)agree with us;we shall see in August ?

Mick has just said that nothing is decided yet about who he is going to start with on 5th August;although he has a good idea, and it will be up to the players to change his mind.

Agree with Ian Marshall that our main priority now should be another striker in the Darren Murphy mould.

Don't think he will have learnt much from the match against Drogheda Reserves though.

Midfield is good now. We need to replace Murphy: 3 million must be our budget for a young hungry striker.

Prebbs007 gave me down arrow. I must have got something right!

How many people on here have watched Hibs regularly. McGinn might be brilliant but most of us don't know. I just don't understand why people moan when it is reported we have had a bid rejected and see it as a lack of ambition. Every day we read that the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd have had bids turned down or lose out to someone else - lack of ambition?
