Supporters Club Chair Edwards Steps Down
Supporters Club Chair Edwards Steps Down
Thursday, 8th Jun 2017 10:42

The Ipswich Town Supporters Club (ITSC) has announced that Elizabeth Edwards is stepping down from the committee and from her role as chair with immediate effect.

Edwards, who has chaired ITSC since September 2007 having previously been chair of the London Branch, explained the reason for the move: “It was a very difficult decision to make but I want to focus on my voluntary roles with ITFC and in particular that of Supporter Liaison Officer, which is an EFL requirement of all member clubs, and is becoming a much bigger responsibility.

“At the same time, it is important that the Supporters Club can continue to operate independently, and under dedicated leadership.

"Making the change now rather than at the Supporters Club AGM in October makes it easier to begin planning activities for the 2017/18 season for both ITFC and ITSC.”

Edwards’s future roles will include organising events with current and ex-players, the ITFC Heritage Project and work within the community including CHAPS Men’s Health Charity, 12th Man Mental Health, leading the club’s activities for the Ipswich Dementia Action Alliance and with the New Wolsey Theatre. She will also attend the Supporters Forum and Supporters Club activities on behalf of ITFC.

“I will still be very involved in supporter engagement including being in the FanZone and Legends Bar on a home matchday and at all away games, as well as being heavily involved in the organisation and running of current and ex-player events throughout the season and around the region,” added Edwards, who is also a member of the PLC board and an associate director through her shareholding.

A Blues supporter since the mid-sixties, she was also involved in the set-up and early years of Ipswich Town 1st, the Supporters Trust.

Steve Doe, current treasurer of the Supporters Club, will be taking on the role of caretaker-chair with the committee set to meet in the next month to start planning for the future. Doe is a lifelong Town fan who lives and works in Ipswich running his business as a financial advisor.

Steve said: “We would like to thank Liz for all her hard work over the last 10 years and wish her well for the future.

“I am pleased to be working with the current committee in taking the Supporters Club forward and look forward to continuing to working with Liz as part of her role with ITFC.”

Something is or has happened behind the scenes

best wishes

Replacement needs to be able to address the removal of foul mouthed McCarthy and the shame of the current negative life sucking management of the club

Watch out for the Milne spin - this, coupled with Simon Milton imminent departure is probably the clear out he spoke of earlier!

I'm not completely sure I agree with other posts that things may be happening behind the scenes - things often change in back of house positions at this time of year, and in the grand scheme of things, both recently announced changes are relatively minor. If anything it's possibly a sign that things will be staying the same at a more senior level and they are getting their non dissenting yes men into place for their next round of nonsensical decisions.

Has always divided opinion among our fan base and remember a time a few years ago she was quite vocal in condemning the actions of a minority of fans at the Colchester pre season friendly. Booing an injured player is clearly distasteful, but her statement was somewhat patronising. Never truly represented the views of supporters fairly and was a mouth piece of the club

Bye Bye.

I imagine with Spurs doing so well now she's lost interest in ITFC.

Liz isn't going anywhere. She is still very much involved in organizing the supporters events, but new responsibilities mean she can no longer carry on in the role of Chair. New initiatives are always cropping up in sport and football & roles are bound to change as a result. I do recall chatting with her at the fanzone and at various events and she was hinting at her role changing.

Gosh this is an exciting close season all the comings and goings in the playing staff. Absolutely obvious that McCarthy, Evans and Milne are working nonstop to restore our proud clubs fortunes.

For those of you short on humour this is meant to be sarcasm.

I always found her incredibly annoying and patronising and official supporters club was anything but independent never criticising the club when it was crying out for it.

Far too close to the club, I for one have been bothered about the supporters club.

blueginger-----totally unfair and pathetic comment----know your FACTS first.

Liz is blue through and through and has done more work for this club than you will ever do in a lifetime.

Cheap shots not required at the moment.

Never understand why our supporters club seems to do anything but be a mouthpiece for supporters. @philtwtd can you or one of the "Blue Monday" podcasts do the job? You guys are far more in touch with the fans.

A voice of reason that was never going to be popular with the minority of supporters on here.

Good riddance. I was embarrassed by her public statements. Literally ashamed to be a town fan when she came out with her prissy, patronising criticisms about loyal town fans' behaviour. Never spoke for me, yet claimed to.

She has explained her reasons which all stack up. It is the negative and foul mouthed posters that need to leave the club if all they can say is derogatory. No wonder other clubs look at Ipswich supporters and the word fickle springs to mind. The club is in a mess but the moaners on here never post anything that can be taken seriously; just like the Tory party and it's poisonous press.
