Former Blues Mings and Sowunmi Join Bournemouth Fans for Kickabout
Wednesday, 24th May 2017 09:38

Former Town full-back Tyrone Mings surprised a group of AFC Bournemouth fans by joining them for a seven-a-side kickabout last night along with ex-Blues youngster Omar Sowunmi, who is currently with Yeovil Town.

Mings tweeted “I wanna go kick some ball tonight” and was invited along to a game on a 4G pitch at the Littledown Centre in the Dorset town.

The 24-year-old later tweeted a picture of himself and Sowumni with their new team-mates.

Mings left the Blues for the Premier League Cherries two years ago for a fee of £8.1 million, while Sowunmi, 21, came through the academy and featured for the U21s before being released in the summer of 2015 without making a first-team appearance.

The former Braintree and Lowestoft loanee, who plays either as a striker or centre-half, subsequently joined the Glovers.

It's only in the era of social media that this is news. It wasn't uncommon for players (especially youth team) to join in games on the Alderman Rd [astro turf] or other games in the 90s and before. It's still a great experience for fans, it shows the players are still connected and love the game and not [just] the income from it. Mings has always seemed one of the more grounded players, someone who dropped to non-league to get his career moving, perhaps more players should do that, however some become far too 'proud' and think they've achieved it as soon as they get their first contract and feel they can never drop down a level to boost their career when they're at a stage of being stuck in the U23s.

I was going to suggest a trivia section, separate from the news section, but i don't even think this qualifies as trivia!

What a great thing to do and something for the fans to remember.

I remember he was always very thoughtful to fans when he played for Town. Certainly not like some of the other prima donnas who play in the Prem.

Well done Tyrone. Shame we had to sell you.

Reminds me of the time, a couple of years ago, that Fabian Wilnis turned out for my 5-a-side team at goals! In his mid-40's but still the fittest player on the park!

This forum really does attract some miserable pr1cks.

Nice to see a feel good story that is vaguely attached to the recent past of this club.

Top bloke.

For heavens sake you miserable sods, lighten up.
All the negativity in the world, especially Manchester, one of our ex-players does something neat, nice, cool, call it what you want & people are grizzling "what's it doing on here" & "this site is going the same way as ITFC".......lord preserve us! Most spoilt footballers wouldn't be seen a country mile from where Mings was.
Just say "well done Mingsy, good lad"........simples.........sorted.

Rant over, apologies.

What a lad for doing this, if injured during it would be against the contract he has with Bournemouth so wonder if anything internal will happen regarding this.
