McCarthy: I've No Intention of Walking Away From Contract at This Moment
Thursday, 9th Mar 2017 15:16

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he has no intention of walking away from his Blues contract as things stand, despite admitting that he’d hate to come back to Portman Road at the start of 2017/18 with season ticket sales well down.

Despite having been undefeated in seven games - six draws and one win - Town were booed at the end of Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with Wolves but McCarthy wasn’t too annoyed or surprised by the reaction.

“Not really, we didn’t play [well in] the second half,” he said. “I thought we were the better team in the first half, they may have had more passes, but we had the better chances in the first half.

“Josh crossed one, Tom did, we had a chance just before half-time with Tom and Didz, and Bart hadn’t made a save at that point.

“We started the second half really well and it just went away from us. To be fair, they’re a good side and their away record is better than their home record.

“I kind of get used to that, I’ve said before I’m a bit ambivalent towards it. If it’s directed at me I’m not that bothered about it any more.

“But I’m bothered about it being about it being at the players and I’m bothered about how supporters feel about their club because players and managers and coaches come and go but the club will always be here.

“And I think it’s sad when people start to feel ambivalent about the club. There wasn’t a good crowd there and I understand it, we’re not doing as well as they’d like us to be. So no, I’m not angry or upset about it at all.”

McCarthy, who is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2018 with the club having an option for a further two seasons, said in January that he would consider his future in the summer. Will that kind of reaction from fans have a bearing on what he decides to do?

“I’m not walking away from my contract, I’ve no intention of doing that, not at this moment anyway,” he said.

“But, as I said before, I’d also hate to be coming in here with 12,000 or 10,000 season tickets or something when we’ve been used to far better if that’s down to me.

“But having said that, you can start that way and you win two or three games at the very start and people come back. It’s generating that.

“What we’ve got to try and generate is that feelgood factor now before the end of the season if we can do it.”

I know football fans are notoriously fickle but when a few on here have been diehard like Cornardblue and myself for 60 years, and have had enough, it is time to worry. I have seen every promotion, relegation and cup wins since 1956 but have never been so disaffected and bored as in the last 2 seasons. I have seen us ship 9 goals twice and 10 at Fulham without ever considering deserting the ship. This season, however, has seen the final straws. It looks like McCarthy will not be leaving so, sadly, I will. I think we have some reasonable players but the style of play is dire and McCarthy has now proven beyond doubt that he cannot change this style or the emphasis on not losing. We would hoof it long even if we had Barcelona's front three. It hurts me desperately to see woeful, boring performances week after week as against Wolves and then hear McCarthy bigging up the opposition. He even did it with Rotherham who only have one away point all season. No prizes for guessing. Sometimes even though you care you have to walk away. This is one of those occasions.

Time for people to vote with their feet. I walked away from my season ticket 3 years ago. The football he was serving up then was awful and it'd only got worse. If season tickets continue to be sold in thousands the club will do nothing

Football managers do really have the life of Riley. Paid handsomely and even better off sometimes when sacked. Win Win for MM. Someone else will pick up his cheque should ME ever see sense and get rid of him. Unfortunately for Town fans and ITFC as a whole, it could well be far too late by then. Please get rid now.

Please can somebody explain what he has done to deserve more time. Poor tactics, poor selection, poor substitutions. How does that amount to deserving of more time? How bad does it have to get before the self absorbed "true supporters" change their opinions? Just turning up out of blind loyalty or habit is not support, it is serf like worship to a failing regime. It is of course everybody's free choice but why would any person put themselves through it season after season with no real evidence of progress.

It's quite simple:

Don't renew/buy a season ticket.

It's the only way we'll force our owner to take action.

Clutching at straws here Swn as I only said that by his actions and attitude I bet this is what he thinks.Although he uses expletives regularly and treats questioners he does not like with distain, even he wouldn't say this

I was implying that he has no desire to be at this club, other than the money.

You may recall he said in his early days here that he was debating whether to come.He had such a high opinion of himself that he thought he would get the Ireland job again,so I believe he had a clause in his contract at that time that he could leave if he wanted
