Goal-Line Technology Set for Championship
Thursday, 16th Feb 2017 19:27

EFL clubs agreed in principle to introduce goal-line technology into the Championship from next season at a meeting earlier today.

The move, which is subject to further discussion before a final vote is taken at the EFL's AGM in June, would see Hawk-Eye technology installed at all Championship clubs.

The Premier League introduced similar technology at the start of the 2013/14 season, while it has also been in use in EFL play-off matches and in the later stages of the EFL Cup.

Shaun Harvey, EFL CEO, backed the development: “I welcome the decision of our clubs to introduce goal-line technology into the EFL.

“PGMOL [Professional Game Match Officials Limited] officials do an incredible job and this decision is about providing our match officials with as much support as possible to ensure they are best placed to make the right calls in even the most difficult of situations.

“The technology is widely adopted elsewhere in football, including in two of our competitions, and I therefore welcome it as an important addition to the Sky Bet Championship from next season.”

We would only need to buy one for the goal we're defending and then move it to the other end at half time!
