Preston Boss Confirms Town Interest in Hugill
Thursday, 12th Jan 2017 17:18

Preston boss Simon Grayson has confirmed Town have shown interest in striker Jordan Hugill. Yesterday, the Blues were reported to have had a £1.5 million offer for the 24-year-old turned down, however, Grayson says he’s not aware whether there has been “an official approach” from Town.

“We’ve had enquiries for Jordan," Grayson told BBC Lancashire Sport. "I’m not quite sure whether there’s been an official approach for him from Ipswich but I know they’ve asked the question and obviously that got refuted very quickly.

“We don’t want to lose any of our players. We’ve had enquiries for other players as well, it just tells you that the team are doing well and individuals are doing well.”

He added: “I can’t say 100 per cent [whether there’s been an official offer] because I haven’t really spoken to [club advisor] Peter [Ridsdale] since it came out. Wherever it’s been leaked from it hasn’t been leaked from us, I can presume where it’s going to have come from.

“But we don’t want to do anything because Jordan is a good player for us, he has a bright future, we paid a small fee for him and it just shows how well he’s been doing and what people think of him.”

Grayson says Hugill is happy at Deepdale and while all players have a price insists his club isn’t actively looking to sell.

“Every club in the country, in Europe are vulnerable while the window’s still open, that’s always going to be the case for all players, and every player has a price,” he added.

“But we’re very much in the mould that we don’t have to sell players unless we think it’s the right thing to do.”

If Hugill is sold his former club Port Vale have confirmed that they will be entitled to a percentage of the profit the Lilywhites make on the £25,000 youth compensation they paid the Valiants for the Middlesbrough-born frontman in June 2014.

Rumours linking the Blues with a move for Hugill have been circulating on the TWTD Forum for the last week.

Meanwhile, Rotherham boss Paul Warne has dismissed yesterday's report which claimed the Millers have received multiple bids for striker Danny Ward.

Warne says the one bid he confirmed earlier this month from a club who weren’t Town remains the only offer the South Yorkshiremen have received.

Despite the enquiry regarding Hugill, we understand Town remain very interested in Ward.

All this speculation, transfer rumours and non stop guessing game is just big charade under-lined by a shoe string budget. The longer this b/s nonsense goes on will mean the more disappointed us fans are when no one of any substantial talent is eventually taken on. We need more than one player to change performances. What is the point of heaping pressure on a new striker to bang in the goals when he will possibly have the same awful service. We need more than one player and the delay probably indicates we will struggle to land one cash signing. That will please Evans.

See Gent have put Jeremy Perbet up for Transfer asking for 750K, due to him wanting to move abroad. Age is against him (32), but he is a target man and has scored 33 goals in his last 53 games and also has 22 assists. Phenomenal record (basically either assists or scores a goal every game he plays). Swindon Town and Oldham have both expressed interest, but think the fee is a bit too steep.

Hmmm just imagine if one or two of our FEW good / outstanding players pulled a "Dimitri Payet" i.e. woke up one day and simply decided they were not only soooo fed up with things at their present place of employment but could do soooo much better elsewhere, that they went on a similar unconditional strike as in refusing to play for this here particular ultra poorly run & sorry a@@ Ipswich club ANY LONGER .... say as good as always M.O.T.M. susceptible King Bart and on-loan Prince Tom for instance???

Now such an albeit slightly far-fetched :-) scenario sure would make the already fairly volatile situation here at Ipswich MIGHTY MIGHTY interesting .... especially for both our self-perceived Football Genius: Master Mick the manager, but obviously also for his self-determined Football Clueless employer: Scrooge Evans the owner wouldn't it??? LOL

God...starting to feel very depressed about the rest of our season. I know it's tongue and cheek, but it wouldn't shock me in the slightest if we end up with Chopra, Counago, Nouble or Priskin. Or Tabb....he'll probably sign Tabb and get the others to hoof it to him. Oh dear God...
Nugents off to Derby and Rhodes looks Wednesday bound. Ward will end up at a club with some ambition...leaving us with someone that none of us have ever heard of. Probably on a free.Sad state of affairs....I do feel for Mick...but this club is in a right old mess. How are we even in the Championship?

Even EX Town players are saying Town don't have the pulling power anymore, surely that must mean something.
This club is slowly sinking to a very low level, when once we were the envy of most clubs in the country.
If we loose the next two games it will be a very Dark day at PR.!

starting to look desperate... let's target a realistic addition and go get him. Chucking in enquiries here there and everywhere won't work, look at West Ham in the summer - ended up with Zaza!

Spot on heatfelt post @Bontcho .... and your sentiments are likely shared by truly many of our fans (incl. those that simply won't admit it to and those that don't post at all! :-) ......HOWEVER please stop starring too long into that darn "Abyss" while also do battle with "monsters"??? PLEASE!!!

Why??? Because if your know your just basic Nietzsche then you will certainly know that he not only pretty likely went somewhat MORE "cuckoo" from this here particular referred to metaphysical adventures (among many others such personal adventures of course!) but undebatbly at least all-embracing from "dark" to "pitch black" as a direct result of it!!!

But of course if you don't mind eventually going inZzzane .... please by all means continue, dearest .... and then AFTERWARDS you can take solace in another of Nietzsche great classics:

Noooo Noooo!@Runningout I'm in fact currently working hard (or is that in pseudo-reality "hardly working" as particular Mr. Homer Simpson often ponders??? LOL) ....

Nah I'm generally a real fairly busy man (if not having a day off obviously, something which my 'flex-time' job luckily occasionally enables me too!), just at the moment having some smallish free time with my old trusted BlackBerry while on one of my more and more infrequent Starbucks coffee and/or about-to-illegal Menthol fags little breaks, this one here just before an awesome (NOT!) so called 'Brainstorming' meeting actually... :-)

Comment from article in PNE local paper: "We signed Hugill for £25,000 and now can get £1.5 MILLIONS for him. They should have hired a taxi and rushed him to Ipswich. I admire Hugill as although he is ponderous, cumbersome, lacks basic skill, has poor control; and misses a hateful of goals, he gives 100% commitment. He chases everything, challenges for everything, risks injury to get the ball, takes knocks and gets up and dives in again. I admire him for those attributes. "

Spot on MickZzztactics, Nietzsche encompasses the existential crisis that this club seems to be sinking in. No plan, no direction, no meaning and chaos within the club. ITFC is like Sisyphus, hopelessly pushing the boulder up the hill time and again, just to watch it fall.

I saw that article also keighleyblue, seems most PNE fans agree with that assessment of Hugill. Wanted to say that we might sign Winnall, then realised Wednesday have beat us to it. According to rumours we are looking to land Jerome Sinclair on loan. Bit of an unknown talent really and not scored a goal since 2010 but Watford spent 4 Million on him so he must offer some threat in attack. Yet another link also to Roger Barron, a striker from Leigh RMI who is being released. 31 years old and 2 goals in the last 2 years....sounds like our sort of player! Connor Chaplin (Portsmouth), Lloyd Isgrove (Southampton) and James Alabi (Chester) linked to us also.

Why on Earth are we wasting time on this fella?
If we have 1.5million to spend - Get Jordan Rhodes on loan or sign a better striker!

Surely there must be better players ones that are on short term contracts expiring in the summer who will be easier to get? why do after a player contracted till 2019? are our scouts that bad they can't find a more suitable player? If the scouts are no good sack them and get in ones that are good and can find hidden talents in the lower leagues. Come on town be realistic and get your backside moving and get in players at the right price and the right attitude

We should have been listening when MM said January was a difficult time to find players! Was he just giving himself and ME an excuse not to find the players we need?
Chasing players we can't afford is just a waste of time BUT others seem to have no trouble in getting their targets. As has been said I guess we'll see last minute loan or two.

Like brendenwards, not enamoured with any of the name mentioned so far.

Crikey not James Alabi as well.He was another of Micks many poor signings, and only managed to get shot of him to Chester a year ago.

From everything I have read so far in this window, and as I said before, and mentioned by Marcus Stewart ;think the Club is not a very big draw, and therefor can only attract 2nd class players.

A very sad state of affairs for this once great club, and if we are unsuccessful in this window as a year ago;then things will look bleaker still, with League 1 a distinct possibility.

No mention even of another midfielder, which I think we need almost as much.

MM: "We're no further forward with any new players and there won't be anything for Saturday."

More inspiring words from the manager and the club to lift the supporters ahead of another dull prospect of a game Saturday !!

He won't be turning up here, not a chance..

We will bob along at 18th and on the 10th May we will be manager less..

Out of interest, just seen this. As much as I hate them, their management would appear to have something right...?

Norwich City has apologised to fans for the ticket prices to watch the FA Cup tie at home to Southampton.

Many supporters were unhappy with the £25 fee. The match finished 2-2 with just over 12,000 people in attendance.

City have offered free coach travel to the replay on the South Coast, which takes place next Wednesday.

Could never see something like that coming out of ITFC currently, bearing in mind those fans that get stung £30 + for a game.
