Dozzell and Williams Start for Much-Changed Blues at Wigan
Saturday, 17th Dec 2016 14:16

Andre Dozzell, Jonny Williams, Brett Pitman, Freddie Sears and Jonas Knudsen all start for the Blues in this afternoon’s game at Wigan Athletic.

Knudsen returns to his usual left-back role having recovered from the hamstring injury, which saw him miss the defeat at Birmingham on Tuesday.

Dozzell, making his first Championship start of the season, and Williams, making his first start of his fourth spell at the club, look set to line-up in a three-man midfield with Cole Skuse.

Pitman will be the central striker with Tom Lawrence on the left and Freddie Sears on the right.

Myles Kenlock, David McGoldrick, Grant Ward, Luke Varney and Jonathan Douglas all drop to the bench.

Wigan make three changes with the injured Craig Morgan, Shaun MacDonald and Luke Garbutt dropping out and Dan Burn, Jordi Gomez and Andy Kellett coming into the team.

Wigan: Jaaskelainen, Kellett, Warnock (c), Buxton, Burn, Perkins, Gomez, Power, Jacobs, Wildschut, Grigg. Subs: Lavercombe, Byrne, Le Fondre, Davies, L Burke, Barrigan, Stubbs.

Town: Bialkowski, Chambers (c), Knudsen, Webster, Berra, Skuse, Dozzell, Williams, Sears, Lawrence, Pitman. Subs: Gerken, McGoldrick, Varney, Bru, Douglas, Ward, Kenlock. Referee: Keith Stroud (Hampshire).

Is MM.starting to take notice of the fans with a more creative midfield,, or is it, he might start to think his job is on the line ??

Whilst frustrated that Kenlock is not playing, MM has finally gone bold everywhere else and picked Williams/Dozzell lets not gripe about Jonas. With the forward 6 I guess playing the most established back four he has makes sense.
Lets hope we win big and this attacking formation becomes the norm.
I want to be entertained and now wish I was in Wigan

I'm happy with this line up! He's giving it a go. Fair play Mick. Now if this line up does the business stick with the exciting footballers! Please.

Now, lump it over the midfielders to the lone striker.

Much better line up! Would still prefer Emmanuel and Kenlock for Chambers and Knudsen but it's a step in the right direction! Well done, Mick 👍🏻

Well it's better to fail, trying, than to fail to try. Looking forward to hearing how they've played.

This is 4-3-3 with Dozzell and Williams playing arguably their best positions, in the midfield 3. Much more promising than recent lineups but this formation does not suit Sears, so I'm not sure why he has been given the nod over Ward? And does Didz deserve to be dropped?

All the while he has that donkey at right back though everything else is pretty immaterial in my eyes, and why has he dropped Kenlock?

We shall see.....

Happy that the dinosaur is going for it but still have the worst 2 fullbacks in the league !!!

Good luck town.

Excellent news and while I agree that Kenlock deserved his place thats ok if this team works. Trouble is that it's win/win for MM. If we win he'll take credit but lose and he'll say fans got their wish and see what happens!!
Also strange that Dozz wasn't getting look on but now starts.Still JW should show MM that he's better than Douglas

Its a bloody shame the man acts when we're in the mire! No pressure then Dozzell and Williams! !!! Still playing wrong back 4, which in turn unbalances the whole team! Good luck boys!

If this doesn't work - I hope it does work - where will we be then? Must win this, preferably convincingly, and maybe Mick will be reborn. COYB!

Wow !!!
I did predict the Pitman, Sears and Knudsen changes (as they were the easiest to make without upseting the Senior Players), but certainly did not see McGoldrick being dropped. Fairly bold for Mick as it looks as though he may be feeling the pressure, however Williams and Dozzell need to be selected for a period of games not just a one off. Even if we get beaten today Williams and Dozzell need to start the next 3-4 games and be given a chance as Douglas has been given. I would assume this is a 4-5-1 (4-1-4-1) formation. Hopefully this is the start of things to come although I am still unsure the real favourites will change.

Barham Blue.... Nothing personal in my down vote, but with 5 attacking players ahead, Skuse is vital in the balance. Glad it's Skuse not Douglas in that role.

From sublime to ridiculous, with nearly half the team changed.

This could be seen as panic stations, and am sorry he has dropped Kenlock.

However he needed to bring in Williams for the pedestrian Douglas as goals are required, which need a more offensive attititude.

The mans team selection continues to amaze - no Kenlock, Dozzell virtually in from the cold, and certain people who shouldn't be in the team still there.

This typifies a Manager who has lost the plot, couldn't really care less about the result - and by bringing certain players in will be aching to have yet another snide snap at Supporters who are fed up to the back teeth with all this man stands for, says, and does.

However, I hope we win for the name of Ipswich Town FC - not for MMin any sense of the word.

Please go - and make it soon. How can anyone still be saying 'Well Done Mick' - for what ??
