Sears Delighted to End Frustrating Spell
Wednesday, 19th Oct 2016 12:33

Striker Freddie Sears admitted he was delighted to end his frustrating goalless spell by netting the Blues’ second goal in last night’s 2-0 home victory over Burton Albion.

The 26-year-old, who had gone 38 matches without a goal since netting after 16 seconds at Fulham on December 15th last year, slammed home Tom Lawrence’s cutback two minutes from the end of scheduled time to seal the Blues’ victory over the Brewers.

The goal prompted celebrations from the whole team, including keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, who ran the length of the pitch to join in.

“It’s been a long time coming and it’s been a frustrating period for me but you could see how much it meant to everyone,” Sears told Ipswich Player HD.

It’s not just me, it’s the players, the fans, the manager and everyone around the club was delighted for me, so hopefully I can get a few more now.

“The most important thing for me was getting up and running for the season, I’m not too bothered about how long it has been.

“It’s been tough but I’ve been putting it in, working hard and the reward has come. I’ve done a lot of work with the gaffer and TC about getting in front of the man and tonight I’ve done that and it’s gone in the back of the net.

“We’ve not been scoring, but we’ve been defensively solid and the last couple of games have been 0-0 or 1-0 so it was a relief when Chambo stepped up and got the first goal but we looked to push on and we did just that.”

Well done Freddie, great to see you score, but unless the midfield is sorted out you may find it difficult to get many goals, but I hope I'm proved wrong.!!

Just hope we learn lessons and don't revert to ultra-defensive negativity again at the weekend.

I think we were all delighted too. Hopefully this will now be a weight lifted from his shoulders, and he can go on to score a bit more freely without the number of non-scoring games playing on his mind so much, as it clearly was.
This should be a massive confidence boost for him, and great to see the togetherness of the team in celebrating.

Good one Freddie. I'll settle for 0-0 at St James'
or we nick it after 89 minutes of ultra defensive solidity.
