Stockwell and Wright Legends on the Town
Tuesday, 20th Sep 2016 09:53

Mick Stockwell and Jermaine Wright will be the guests at the Supporters Club’s first Legends on the Town event of the season at the Dove Street Inn, St Helens Street, Ipswich on Monday 3rd October (from 7.30pm)

Stockwell is a member of Town's Hall of Fame having made more than 600 appearances - scoring 44 goals - over a 15-year period from 1985-2000, while Jermaine Wright made over 200 appearances and scored 11 goals between 1999 and 2004.

The evening will look back at 20 consecutive Town seasons (even more if you include Mick Stockwell's three years in the youth team), as well as gaining an insight into the duo’s views on the modern game, as well as Town's start to the season.

Food will be available with a discount for Town season-ticket holders on non-barbecue items.

Tickets cost £5 and are available in person at the Supporters Club's stand inside the FanZone before every home game or from Liz Edwards in Legends Bar after every home game or from Liz at every away game, by email from officialitsc@btinternet.com or by phone or by text message from 07968 876504.

Annoys me to this day that Stockwell was released just prior to the season we went up, he deserved another shot at the Premier League. He was a true servant to the club. One player you could always count on to give his all. A true old school professional in every sense.

Actually midas he played for us in 1999-2000 and was even present at the Playoff Final for the celebrations. He played mainly as a midfielder during the season and was our number 7.

He was released in 2000, and he nearly signed a contract with Norwich but they made him wait an extra week so he signed for Colchester instead where he played well over 100 games, winning their player of the year award in 2001.

I agree it would have been nice to have kept him on, allowing for a few cameos over the subsequent seasons but we had bigger plans, such as going into Administration.

I forgot about the Norwich link, short memory and all that! Glad he didn't go there. What I really meant was that I was gutted he didn't get kept on for the season we went back up, seems such a long time ago now! :-(

Personally I was never Jamma's biggest fan. Just didn't do it for m. All allowed our own views . As for Stockwell, he was different class. Model pro, new what you what you were going to get.
