Elton John to Return to Portman Road
Monday, 19th Sep 2016 09:20

Sir Elton John will play a concert at Portman Road on Saturday 17th June 2017, the club have announced.

The 69-year-old former Watford chairman previously played to a crowd of around 23,000 at Town in June 2004.

“We are delighted here at the club to be hosting one of the biggest entertainers in the world in Sir Elton John,” Town MD Ian Milne told the club site.

“I’m sure it will be a fantastic occasion for the thousands who will be at Portman Road on the night.”

The last Portman Road concert was Barry Manilow’s appearance in 2014, while the likes of P!nk, REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Diamond and Rod Stewart have also played at the stadium over the years.

Tickets for this summer's concert go on general sale from 10am on Friday 23rd September, however, Town season ticket holders and club members can buy theirs from 10am on Wednesday 21st September.

Tickets will be available from Ticketmaster and other agencies, while details of how to buy accessible tickets and hospitality can be found on the club website.

I guess it was Written in the Stars he'd come back one day... we often get linked with past performers at Portman Road, and the likes of Warky, Miller, Ambrose and Murphy... even Jonny WIlliams has come back again. I guess that's why they call us the blues...

There will be a lot of disappointed Elton fans in the crowd when Mick sends Luke Chambers out to sing and play piano for 2 hours and only brings Elton on for the last 5 minutes, probably to play bass guitar.

An entertaining two and a half hours at PR. Good news. Something to look forward to. An attendance of around 23K. Unheard of!

I saw him last time, he was shocking, gave no acknowledgement to the crowd and played no encore. It was insulting and embarrassing, rather like admitting I went!
