Portman Road Policing Still to Be Confirmed
Saturday, 23rd Jul 2016 19:52

Suffolk Constabulary’s presence in and around Portman Road at games during the season ahead is still to be confirmed.

This is understood not to be related to the ongoing legal issue between the Constabulary and the club with the Blues set to appeal their recent defeat in the High Court.

Town regularly stage games where there are no police present with the club’s own security deemed adequate, although this hasn’t previously included matches with a higher risk of trouble, such as Cardiff, Leeds or the Norwich City derby.

It’s still to be established whether Suffolk Constabulary will be involved at Portman Road this season with a meeting of the Safety Advisory Group - which includes local authorities and the emergency services - set to take place this week as the Blues look to secure their safety certificate for the campaign ahead.

A Town spokesman said: “In view of the good behaviour record of our supporters at Portman Road over many years and in line with how football in general is looking at stewarding matches, we are in discussion with various groups on what safety and security resources the club requires on matchday within the confines of the stadium.

“These discussions are ongoing and have been for a considerable time. We’d also like to reiterate that we continue to have a very good relationship with all the emergency services, including the police.”

Are Cardiff really still a problem nowadays?

Quite simply I'd tell theClub where to go if I had control of Suffolk Police.

No limits as to how much contempt Evans has shown to Supporters - and Suffolk Police too.
He knows he can get away with it with an element of Supporters, but the Police may not be so gullible.

Tell him to sling his hook - until he coughs up, like he expects everyone else to.

With a falling attendance
half a dozen police will soon be enough.

With the ridiculous of money awash in football today going into players pockets,
Public safety is being run on the cheap
and common sense is going down the drain

Frankly I think the police will be well happy to be shot of policing football matches. Their budgets have been smashed so anything they can stop doing would suit them. My only reservation is are the stewards actually up to it? I have witnessed a couple of incidents in the North Stand between town supporters towards the end of last season and the stewards were particularly slow in getting to it and displayed little competence when they did arrive. Part of the problem with stewards is they are ordinary people there to help ordinary people, they aren't there to deal with idiots and drunks who want to fight.
Will be strange to see no police but that's progress - apparently

Thank goodness you have nothing to do with Suffolk police Blueboy . ...! !!!!
How low can your odious disrespect for our club go?
Does any sane person think that there will be no police presence for the Norwich game.

essex57 ........... How about having a little respect for the Suffolk Police, who have always done a sound job at Portman Road ? ........ instead of condoning a millionaire who doesn't want, or expect, to pay his dues and demands.

He certainly knows how to charge supporters for dire entertainment - see if he would allow you into Portman Road without coughing up first. No chance - even for you and your 'can't see anything wrong at Portman Road' stance - which has to be a constant embarrassment to any sane person.

DON'T READ MY POSTS PLEASE - I do not wish to confer with someone so blinkered - How many more times do I have to tell you, before it sinks in somewhere ??

As for respect - I had much respect for this Club for many, many years, maybe more than you - hence the significant amount of money I have put into the Club over those years.
Respect has to be earned, and has been lost by many since Evans took over - that includes me.

Let this be our last confer - Thank You.

Safety Advisory Group are the ones issuing the club a licence. If the club fail to meet their criteria, no games go ahead. Simple as that.

You don't like anyone who disagrees with your posts,
When I w went to bed and woke up this morning it was in a free country so please don't tell me what I should or shouldn't do.
If you are so sensitive or other people's replies don't post.

It really is quite simple. Risk v probability. Any organisation has to do that evaluation so it will be on a match by match basis with the Police still available for problems outside the stadium. No need to get hysterical and abusive about the club or individuals. Perhaps this forum has been taken over by Corbyn supporters!

Well said Bert there are far to many rabidly ante club people on this forum these days.

Let the Club rely on Stewards then.

We'll soon see how much control they have. If I had a young family I would seriously NOT be happy to take my Children to a Football match without proper policing - in fact I wouldn't.

Don't give me the bull.... above violence / misbehaviour being a thing of the past - remove the Police and watch the blue touch paper burn whilst Stewards sort everything.

No doubt essex57, new recruit Bert, Elto, and the likes, will have some other 'brain wave' of an idea - anything other than expecting messiah Evans to spend any of his £millions.

We never had such short sighted supporters in the past, OR a Club that is fast resembling a shambles on all fronts, if not already there.

REAL Supporters are the ones who care about things being right - the Club was once renown, and justifiably well proud of such traits.

R.I.P. - the Ipswich Town of old.

........ well essex57 ....... if you have ever had a clue about what you have watched during those 38 seasons - then common sense says that you would have witnessed the demise that we have.

One can only assume you know NOT the difference between entertainment and boredom, and / or the difference between success and failure.

The Burger Man is still there - and the Ground is still in the same place - other than that the whole Club has changed for the worse.

Obviously you haven't noticed - or prefer not to. Head back in the sand, may I suggest, rather than Paracetamol.
