Newcastle and Fulham Linked With Murphy
Saturday, 23rd Jul 2016 11:27

Newcastle United and Fulham are reportedly keen on Blues striker Daryl Murphy following his impressive showing for the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2016.

According to The Irish Sun the Magpies and the Cottagers are both looking for a goalscorer ahead of the new season, Murphy having netted 10 goals for the Blues last season, 27 the previous year - more than anyone else in the Championship - and 13 a season prior to that.

Murphy signed a new two-year contract with an option for a further season with Town last summer after interest from a number of clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough and Cardiff, when he insisted he had no interest in leaving the Blues.

50 goals in the last 3 seasons is a bloody good record fair play to Murphs..still think he could knock in 15+ this season so i'd be disappointed if we let him go for less than £2-3m.

At the end of his career so if we are offered any money at all we should take it.

I will drive him wherever we get a good bid from. Miles past his best. Won't score the goals we need to succeed. No pace, no skill, 10 goals max we can get and need much much better. However I do not trust this owner and manager to go out and get better. We are so far away from a squad to challenge in this division and today's effort was totally abject again. Appreciate its only pre season but we look miles away from what is needed. If we are bringing players in let's get on with it. Everyone in our division is strengthening, what have we done ? Webster apart we have the same dross as last season and that was not good enough. Short of pace, creativity, strength, power, ability and skill. The amazing lack of ambition at the club leaves me despairing for our chances of anything apart from a season of survival unfortunately. Hope I'm wrong but see nothing in our squad apart from Bish & Dozzell to frighten anyone and I'm sure d1ckhead dinosaur will play them out of position anyway.

Evans will sell and then say all money gone on wages, despite just one new signing and nine or so leaving.

Anything £3mil and above and I would take it. He is getting on now and I doubt he will be able to grab anymore than 10-15 goals this season something we could easily get from Sears upfront with the money being invested in a proper winger.

Realistically, what is Murphy worth? He's 33 and apart from one freak season at Town his goal-scoring record is nothing to write home about at all. Ten goals last year is not a good return and he's yet to score a goal for his country at senior level. I can't see any offer being far north of a million (if that) plus every other club knows we are skint and will take advantage of that. Probably better to keep him at the club and hope he has a better season rather than let him go.

Offer two Banana's and a Milk Shake - and Evans will bite their hands off.

From towns point of view I would say they ought to keep him but if I were Murphy at 33 years old and a club came along with a bumper pay rise for a couple of years I would consider it. The wife and kids can rent wherever it is or he can travel to London daily - plenty have done it before.
