Newcastle and Fulham Linked With Murphy
Saturday, 23rd Jul 2016 11:27

Newcastle United and Fulham are reportedly keen on Blues striker Daryl Murphy following his impressive showing for the Republic of Ireland at Euro 2016.

According to The Irish Sun the Magpies and the Cottagers are both looking for a goalscorer ahead of the new season, Murphy having netted 10 goals for the Blues last season, 27 the previous year - more than anyone else in the Championship - and 13 a season prior to that.

Murphy signed a new two-year contract with an option for a further season with Town last summer after interest from a number of clubs, including Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough and Cardiff, when he insisted he had no interest in leaving the Blues.

Can't see it happening personally.

Less likely to play there than here. Can't see him uprooting his family to sit on the bench. Hope it doesn't happen & don't think it will

I'd bite their hand off. Murphy is way past his best now. Can't believe they gave him such a long contract as he isn't a bottle of wine improving with age.

When Murphy is really bang at it there is no better striker in the championship for bullying defenders. His physicality and strength is a huge asset and he has added finishing to his game. Don't think we would sell personally

He's not going anywhere front 3 of murphy sears and didz will terrify any championship defence

I hope he plays much better for us than he did for Ireland. His international goalscoring record is like he was a goalkeeper.

If we're talking £2m+ then we'd be stupid to reject it. I'd personally like to see Murphy and Sears up front with McGoldrick just behind this season though.

No chance. We would be left without a target man.

13 goals - 2014
27 goals - 2015
10 goals - 2016

So a bit of basic maths tells us Murphy will score 24 goals this season...

Completely agree with Jimmy. Plus even if a bid was accepted I doubt he'd agree personal terms as his family are very happy in Suffolk. Although I personally think Pitman could be our top striker this year. Second season with the club and if he gets a long run in the side he could easily get 15+ as I believe he's one of the best finishers in the league.
Would love to see him link with sears and is good enough in the air to play the target man role and great at linking play

I like Murphy, but I think its time for a change. Its healthy with some turnover.

£5 million...take it.
Pitman really is a top finisher.
Sears & McGoldrick we will be OK
As long as we spend the money on attacking midfielders, but will we?

If we were active in the transfer market and I was confident of our ability to attract decent players, and someone was offering good money for Murphy I'd say let him go.

But we're not, and I'm not.

Big Mick has said it himself he is exploring swap deals....It could always be a swap deal for a winger from Newcastle 😂

Murphy is class and wont be sold. If we can get Murph and McG fit at the same time they will be amongst the best in the division. Weve seen the alternative of Pitman and Sears alot and lets be honest theyre not in the same category.

Sell if it's got foundation
and replace with Chris Martin (Derby)
a better all round player; and he comes from Beccles

If they offer a decent figure I'd take it.
Don't get me wrong I love Murph but is surely now past his best and money could strengthen elsewhere.
James Norwood, Tranmere similar player worth a cheeky bid.

Money + a player or two and I'd be happy. Love Murphy but he's getting towards the end now and I'm sure Pitman and Sears would cut it for us on the goals front.

Can't see this happening, good player and when in form a decent striker at this level. Having said that if we were offered over 2 million and Murphy wanted to go I would wish him well. I'm more worried about players coming in! We need 2 wingers with pace and a box to box cm.... not gonna hold my breath though. Coyb
