Robinson on Trial at Bromley
Saturday, 16th Jul 2016 19:22

Defender Joe Robinson has joined Vanarama National League side Bromley on trial and played the first half of their 2-1 defeat to League One Millwall in a pre-season friendly at their Hayes Lane ground this afternoon.

Town U21s skipper Robinson, who finished last season on loan at Woking, recently signed a new one-year contract with the Blues.

On Wednesday, after the friendly at Barnet, manager Mick McCarthy said there are a number of youngsters he’d like to send out on loan to gain experience. Keeper Michael Crowe, 20, is in the second week of a trial at League Two Portsmouth.

Speaking in April, McCarthy said Haverhill-born Robinson, 19, had impressed him with his attitude.

“I’ll be brutally honest, six months ago I’d be thinking I probably wouldn’t have kept him.

“But he made such a rapid improvement and he’s such a great kid and such a great character and an example to others, I think based on that he’s worth that chance.

“He’s a young one in his year and as we all know young scholars, young academics, young professional footballers, if they’re almost 10 or 11 months behind some of the others, their peers, they do take a bit of catching up.

“He’s worth it on that basis and he’ll be in the U21s, if not we’ll loan him out somewhere because he did well at Woking. That’s his future at the club and hopefully he improves enough to get in the team.”

Robinson made his first and so far only competitive appearance for the Town senior side was as an 89th minute sub in the FA Cup replay at Portsmouth in January.

Is this a trial with a view to a loan or are we intending to get rid? Saw him play one half at Barnet & he looked physically well up to real football, OK in possession if a little pedestrian. Could make a centre back in the lower leagues IMO.

Seems a good chance to get some competitive action if he goes there on loan, more so than our own under 21s would give him... Despite being non league, it's still going to be a good experience for him. Good luck in the trial and hope he gets the chance to impress.

There is so little transfer news regarding our squad. Most boring a Summer ever in relation to possible transfers.

Jack Marriott went to a non league club on loan, earned rave reviews, didn't come back really instead he went to Luton Town and was Player of the Year! Did we miss a trick with Jack and will be same happen here?

As others have stated, don't believe there will be that many new players in this season. MM is intending to fill out many of the places released with youth players. We might see the odd youngster come in, or maybe someone like Elliott Bennett come in (who is now surplus to requirements at Blackburn).

It's hard to know if this is a good strategy until the new season begins. We will certainly be saving a great deal of money on monthly wage expenses and that's got to be a good thing for the club long term. I know the youth teams haven't exactly played well but it's not ultra competitive football and some of these lads may well step up and make the grade.

Benyu, Pattersen, Dozzell, Emmanuel, Kenlock, Blanchfield, Morris, McLoughlin, McDonnell, Nydam, Fowler, Marsden are all likely to see first team action at some point in the season, if not regular first team action. If we get our customary injuries we could be fielding a young side which isn't a bad thing.

Absolutely nothing at all in the local media regarding signings , targets etc. We as a club will suffer a terrible season if some pace on the wide areas is not added , if we do not sign a specialist right back i.e. a modern attacking one . If we do not actually start the season with players in place then what next . our form from jan to the end of the season was bottom 6. You can get 25 to 1 on us being relegated , i don't want us to but its worth 100 quid. If we go down then 2.5 grand , if don't then its 25% of the cost of a season ticket which I've not renewed. Entertainment costs nothing. Same as our squad ,so duty bound is MM to put on a show and bring people like me back who are sick to death of the nothing we have become. Oh sorry ,we were named in 442 magazine as britains most boring team.
