McCarthy: Allardyce Gets the Best Out of People
Saturday, 16th Jul 2016 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy is delighted to see his friends and contemporaries Sam Allardyce and Steve Bruce in the running for the England manager's job vacated by Roy Hodgson, who resigned following the embarrassing Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland.

Sunderland boss Allardyce, 61, is the only candidate to have spoken to the FA’s three-man selection panel - Martin Glenn, David Gill and Dan Ashworth - while Bruce, 55, has been linked but with Hull City yet to be asked for permission to talk to their manager.

“I’m delighted for them,” former Republic of Ireland boss McCarthy said. “Somebody has just got the prime minister’s job who just gets the job done. As she keeps saying, she just gets on with it and gets it done.

“That’s a bit like Sam and Steve and a few more of us that are much maligned I think at times in these supposed modern and different days, the way people speak differently about it.

“Sam’s just been excellent, I think. I don’t know how many things he’s won. Promotions, stays in the league. He gets the best out of people.

“Somebody wants to write a CV for him. What’s his CV? He gets players for not a lot, he gets the best out of them and generally they get promoted, stay up or upset the apple cart with everybody else. He just gets the best out of people. Surely that’s got to be the remit of any manager.”

He added: “They’ve tried numerous other options, haven’t they and gone away from [them]. Sometimes Sam has been tagged with the long ball and how he plays. But for me it’s about winning games.

“I’d imagine that the better players Sam’s got the better football he’ll play. And if he can get the best out of them, why not? The same applies to Brucey as well.”

Look at me. I'm good and you are all wrong about style of play. Pathetic.

Allardyce would address the present shortcomings if he was our manager
I doubt if 95% of those players currently here, would ever come under his consideration.

He got them promoted and transformed "Wet Spam" into a top half performing premiership club.
Which we shall never be under McCarthy's leadership.

Can't MM get the England job and do us all a favour?

" but for me its about winning games" well then why do we only see teams from you set up not to lose games, thats a big difference to setting up to win. Big Joe set out to win games, you dont.

He must realise that his negative team selections and the way he goes about things doesnt adhere him to the fans!

Not sure about Sam for the national job, guess we will see.

I'm trying not to be anti Mick but he has an annoying Yorkshire way of trying to justify himself when answering questions on others!

West Ham fans hated Big Sam's football even when successful , look where they are now under a new manager whose first option is to attack rather than park the bus and say how well we did . England need to stop employing poor English managers who have not managed at the very top club level and handled the biggest stars or won any major trophies , otherwise they will continue to shoe horn players out of position to accommodate into out of date systems and with no real game plan or plan b and continue to fail at big tournaments but still want to pat themselves on the back and tell the public how well they did , sound familiar ?

Some of you people on here really get to me how you get on McCarthys back, you need to remember where we were before he came along! I'd love to see him backed with some proper investment and then he could show us what he really can do!

Worryingly, we are 12th in the table at the moment. Wonder if any of Big Sam, Mick, or Bruce could/can improve on that, given the lack of finances available.

Yes bongblue91, MM has done ok! but do you really think the boring long ball game he presents us with week in week out, the lack of entertainment to win him fans. It is expensive and i think its only fair to expect entertaining football every now again, it is after all meant to be an entertaining spectacle. People want more for their money and rightly so! Its all very well the MM lovers who say stay away, but its not easy to stay away when you love your team. Itfc have an obligation towards the fans, without the fans there is no club!

I find myself on the fence. On the one side, I am getting really bored with the negative MM out rubbish I read on here. Frankly, he has done a fantastic job to get us to 6th & 7th with no funds (until signing Adam Webster). I really do feel that we have a very solid/strong squad that is just missing 2 X speedy/attack minded Wingers who will provide the ammunition for our forwards. BUT......the Only thing I do agree with the whingers on is the lack of entertainment. But to my mind that surely that will come with the 2 missing Wingers we all crave! We all Love our Club - Let's stop knocking it!

Allardyce must be high up the league of 'managers sacked the most times' including most recently at West Ham for his awful style of football'. It's easy to see why MM admires him so much.

There are big pros about Big Sam as England manager, and big cons, possibly similar to Hodgson.

The same is true with Mick and Ipswich.

Comparing McCarthy and others of his ilk to dinosaurs is very unfair to dinosaurs.
