Coke Closing in on Return to Action
Wednesday, 13th Jul 2016 12:04

Town are hoping midfielder Giles Coke will be fit for the start of the season having undergone knee surgery towards the end of what had been an injury-hit first campaign with the Blues.

“Giles tore the back of his cartilage and had surgery to repair it rather than remove the damaged cartilage,” physio Matt Byard told the club website.

“Hopefully he will be outside continuing his rehab in the next two weeks and the target is for him to be ready for the start of the season.”

The 30-year-old, who joined Town last summer following a trial having been released by Sheffield Wednesday, made only four starts — just one in the league — and 10 sub appearances during 2015/16.

Meanwhile, Byard says left-back Myles Kenlock could be fit for the friendly at Cambridge United after suffering an ankle injury early in pre-season

“Myles jarred his ankle in the first week of pre-season,” he added. “He is running on the AlterG and he should return to running outside next week.

“We are looking at the Cambridge friendly Saturday week as a return for him, hopefully.”

Without doubt one of our worst players. If we end up making do with Giles Coke, we may as well not bother.

Good news and good luck to him this season. Hasn't scored or got an assist in nearly 5 years so has tonnes to prove. I can see him playing a pivotal role for our club this year. After bad times at Wednesday. Swindon and Bolton I believe he WILL find form with us. We just need to believe in him.

My Wed mates were laughing their heads off when we signed him

Looks the part, but mistake prone and runs out of steam too easily. Without doubt one of the worst players I have ever seen play for us, makes Douglas, Skuse and Hyam look world class.

Pretty much sums up what he's given us so far... I hope he proves us all wrong this season, if involved, yet somehow I can't quite see it...

Why on earth did we keep Coke and let Foley go?

I love it when a player has the opportunity to stick two fingers up at negative 'supporters' who have formed their opinion of him based on 4 first team starts..... Good luck to you Giles, you've obviously worked hard to regain your fitness, now go out at have the last laugh at our embarrassing fans.

Sorry, but can't believe I got so many minuses for trying to be positive. This is a guy who is massively short on confidence and he is OUR PLAYER. I don't rate him either but if I had a Salesman who had been underperforming massively for five years would I encourage him gently or tell him how c$$$ he is and point at him? We seriously need players such as Coke to catch form this season if we are to have any hope of a top half finish.

I am also kind of fed up of the "Coke bashing". Yes, he's been poor, he knows that and would probably hold up his hands and agree with you. But we need to move forward and give him a chance. I would love it if he belts one in from 30 yards on the first day of the season.

Fed up with this type of "footballer" holding back the progress of our own kids..The likes of Coke constantly bring very little to the season so what is the point in padding our squad out with these journeymen?
We've got enough experience in the team with Chambers,Berra,Smith,Skuse,Douglas,Sears,Pitman,McGoldrick,Hyam,Murphy etc ..time to give some of our kids a decent run.

He's played 12 times for Ipswich. He's played more minutes of football for us than his times at Bolton, Swindon and his trials at Blackburn and York City combined. The only goal he is likely to score from 30 yards is an own goal. Memories of Portsmouth fans laughing at his efforts will forever haunt me. Santos and Karic were better footballers.

Guentchev : I thought your first post was nonsense - Giles Coke will not be pivotal for our season whether he hits the form of his life or not. He is backup to Skuse, Hyam & Douglas and will only ever be cover. All 3 of them are currently fit while the more creative Bru, Bishop & Dozzell are all likely to get more game time this season, hopefully.
Your second post really has me confused though. You say the purpose of your post is to boost his confidence & then you go on to say how rubbish you really think he is anyway; which is actual further & more direct than most other posters were in the first place.

Actually feel sorry for him for all the stick he gets on here but would be nice to see him play well for us & prove us wrong. That said I can't see it happening!!

There is probably more action in my coke bottle. Sorry Giles, having got rid of quite a few players, I would have hoped that you and Douglas would have gone! But I guess MM wants to keep some bums on seats! With the avalanche of new signings I hope that our young talent will get a greater opportunity, MM will not stick to the same players and the same system......time to kick out hoof ball.

thank the lord we are saved! everything looking good now our best player is nearly fit so surely we can cash in on BISHOP DOZZEL and MCGOLDRICK as we wont need any class, pace, skill etc.

takes tongue out of cheek

Certainly don't wish the guy ill, and I hope he gets fit; but I'd rather we took a punt on some of our yoofs.
