Town Targeting Charlton Winger Friday, 24th Jun 2016 09:22
Town are reported to be showing interest in Charlton Athletic winger Callum Harriott.
According to the South London Press, the Blues are set to try to tempt the Addicks with an offer for the 22-year-old, who newly-promoted Barnsley made a low six-figure bid for earlier in the summer.
Charlton, relegated to League One in May, are said to be keen to hold on to Harriott, who recently extended his contract until the summer of 2017, having turned down an offer from Wigan Athletic last year.
Norbury-born Harriott came through the youth system at The Valley, joining their academy at U9 level, and has won three England U19 caps.
The 5ft 5in tall left-sided wideman spent the first half of the season on loan at Colchester United in League One, making 22 starts and one sub appearance, scoring seven goals. Harriott has made 62 starts and 33 sub appearances for the Addicks, scoring 12 goals.
Speaking in May, manager Mick McCarthy said adding wingers to his squad is a priority this summer.
“The wide areas are an issue for us," he admitted. "We have lost Tabby [Jay Tabb]. Ainsley [Maitland-Niles] has gone back to Arsenal and obviously Ryan [Fraser] is back with Bournemouth so we need to look at that.
“Goals from midfield have been a problem for us over the last two or three years but we looked to have got on top of that with Ryan, who certainly contributed in that area. He was a real loss for us."
McCarthy had hoped to add former loaned Liam Feeney to his squad on a permanent basis but, having agreed a deal with the Blues, the 29-year-old was offered very significantly better terms by another club, believed to be Blackburn Rovers.

Seems to come inside for most of his goals/assists. Fast, quick feet, chases the ball down, can spot a pass and has a good shot on him....what's not to like?
After the Adam Webster signing this is another possibility giving cause for optimism it has to be better than signing has-been journey men on big wages.
Afraid in recent years especially since MM arrived,we rarely land a player where there is competition from teams with equal or even inferior status to Town.
I know Mick does get involved in transfers more than he did,if his remarks are correct;but fear that most of the time this is down to the owner who seems reluctant to pay a competititive rate to get players of sufficient quality to compete with the best in this division. With a Champions League winner Roberto de Matteo in charge of Villa and another top and very experienced manager at Newcastle,I fear that it will be even more difficult this season.
Saw him loads last year at col u was their best player , when he signed for the u,s read a lot of comments from charlyon fans saying he's lazy but this guy put a real defensive shift in and on the counter attack is lightning and got some quality goals would be a bargain
Only saw one game from him so can't really say much. But he is a good age and seems to have played well at Charlton and is also quite liked. Position we need to invest in so let's get it done!
I think the fox and hound were looking at signing him in the Chelmsford invitation league division 3. Shame we've been out bidder again. O well I shall go back to sleep. Almost got excited. Who's going to the game against Coggeshall town. Up the crops
