Smith Amongst Four Left Out
Saturday, 9th Apr 2016 14:25

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made four changes for today’s home game against Brentford, swapping Tommy Smith, Jonathan Douglas, Liam Feeney and Brett Pitman, who all drop to the bench, for Kevin Foley, Luke Hyam, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Luke Varney.

The Blues look likely to start in a 4-4-2 system with Foley at right-back, skipper Chambers at the centre of the defence alongside Christophe Berra.

Ben Pringle and Maitland-Niles seem likely to play wide with Cole Skuse and Hyam in the centre and Varney and Freddie Sears up front.

David McGoldrick is again on the bench but there’s no place in the 18 for Teddy Bishop, who made his return as a sub against Charlton on Tuesday.

Town: Bialkowski, Foley, Chambers (c), Berra, Knudsen, Skuse, Hyam, Pringle, Maitland-Niles, Sears, Varney. Subs: Gerken, Smith, Douglas, Feeney, Pitman, McGoldrick.

Brentford: Button, Colin, Bidwell, Dean, Saunders, McCormack, Woods, Judge, Vibe, Barbet, Canos. Subs: Bonham, Hogan, Kerschbaumer, O’Connell, Gogia, Clarke, Ferry. Referee: Phil Gibbs (West Midlands).

What has Smith done wrong!? For me, he's been one of the better players this season, along with Bart and Fraser...

Least Chambo is in the middle! Very harsh on Smith, unless it's a knock?

Mick changing his back 4? Surely not!

Too little too late?

Not sure what Tommy has done wrong when you consider how poor Chambo and Berra have been. It's better but still can't help feeling annoyed and wondering why the season had to be gone before we see a relatively balanced team!

Maybe Mick is preparing his back four for next season since Smith's contract is up in the summer? Maybe Smith has decided to leave?

What?

I haven't been Smith's biggest fan in the past but he is one of few players that can take any credit from this season.

Feel for lad.

Going for it today. Skuse and Hyam in the middle to get us goals and create chances. That's a tried and tested partnership that always works. Oh hang on!!? Would love to see Skuse and Bru in the middle of the park, personally.

And agree, harsh on Smith. Unsung hero and my vote for player of the season.

We seem to be playing with 10. 4-3-2 formation.

Assume missing player is either Douglas or Feeney. Or are we playing 5 at back with Smith?

Confident as starting with only 10 players

Just heard Feeney to start. So 4-4-2

10 players and only 6 on the bench. Mick has lost it.

Only 5 subs though compared to brentfords 7. That's unusual if case

Why no bishop? We should have 7 subs.

Asking loads of Foley though. 3rd different position he's played for us already.
