McCarthy: Feeney's Even More Talented Than I Thought
Saturday, 19th Mar 2016 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy says new addition Liam Feeney has looked an “even more talented” player than he had thought he was since joining the Blues on loan for the rest of the season this week.

McCarthy says the 29-year-old, who is set to make his debut against Rotherham at Portman Road today, is a player who has often impressed him against his sides: “For a long time he’s always played well against my teams. We’ve watched him before, I liked him when he was at Millwall.

“He’s a resilient player, he’s played a lot of games and he’s a real threat because of his pace.

“I thought he was excellent against us up at Bolton, playing up front, playing a different role.

“He joined in training this morning and I watched him and he’s a much better player, a more talented player than just being an out and out winger with a lot of pace. I’m suitably impressed with him.”

In action for Millwall

The loan move gives Feeney, who is out of contract in the summer, a chance to impress and win a permanent deal with Town or elsewhere.

“With somebody, of course, and we’re in the best place and he’s in the best place in terms of looking at one another,” McCarthy added. “He’ll assess us and we can assess him.

“But what I have signed is a tried and tested Championship player, who has been resilient over his career, has played games, knows the division and is a real threat. I’m delighted with that and we can both have a look at each other for next season.”

Looking forward to seeing Feeney in action.

We have a good range of midfield/wing players now. Foley, Pringle, Skuse, Hyam, Douglas, Feeney are all good players at this level. AMN has some good games. McDonnell and Dozzell look like they have good potential. Bishop, though injured this season, has great talent. Digby and Toure are pretty untried but both showed good moments too. Fraser has been are outstanding player and I just hope we haven't seen the last of him. It's even great to have Tabb in the background!

Would be very interesting to see feeney and fraser on the wings if we can make the play offs ,especially if mcgoldrick is back and firing as well

Really happy with Feeney signing . I think he is very under rated , he can give us a big boost at the right time but please please get the ball to his feet and get the best out of him . COYB !!

He seems to be the player we have been needing all season, especially now Fraser is injured and looks unlikely to be back. With Feeney and Pringle on the wings and Sears and Murphy up front we could be seeing a lot of goals from now till the end of the season. Hopefully Feeney can play on the right and can interchange with Pringle to confuse other teams.

I am really excited about the game today now.

Imagine having Pringle, Feeney, Sears, Murphy and Pitman all on form. With the possibility of McGoldrick rising from the grave! COYB

Lets not to carried away Mick and put unwanted pressure on a player before he's already kicked a ball for us...ok he did well against us but that's not saying much. I'm glad we've got a 'proper' winger in place as it was much needed considering the circumstances. Hope he has a good game today although I feel he will probably come on as a sub.

Looking forward to seeing Feeney today. Has the qualities we have been lacking lately. Come on The Town

I think Mick is trying to bump up Feeney's confidence further, and that's a good thing as you want a winger to believe in himself going forward. In many ways I would rather this signing than seeing Fraser come back, as with Fraser it would be a case of a few more games before returning to Bournemouth whereas Feeney can become our player in the summer and be good for the next few years hopefully (he turned 29 in January, so not 30 for a while).

This is NOT moan about Mick and I'm delighted with Feeney

But is it just me who wonders at the wisdom of telling us publicly that he didn't really know EXACTLY how good (implication being "or not") a player is before signing?

Seems some signings are "even better then I thought" and clearly sine don't fit in after all ....or aren't good enough as players or characters

Much as I still trust Mick to go on working well under constraints....I'd like him to sound more sure of himself sometimes!!!

let's see Feeney AND THE WHOLE TEAM show they are better than we've thought on occasions this season. 3 points from A DANGEROUSLY IN FORM team☺
