Pringle Can't Wait to Make Home Debut
Tuesday, 23rd Feb 2016 06:00

When Town boss Mick McCarthy rang new loanee Ben Pringle to ask if he fancied joining him at Portman Road he was quickly given the answer he wanted.

Pringle has arrived from Fulham on a one-month deal - which could be extended to the end of the season - and said: “You know what you’re going to get [with Mick] and as a player that’s exactly what you want, with the manager telling you what they want and if there are any doubts ‘Do this’ or ‘Do that’.

“That was it, he gave me a call and asked if I fancied it. Obviously I did as opposed to doing nothing at Fulham, so that was one of the main reasons I came here. Each player wants to play and wants to feel wanted.

“From what I’ve seen since I’ve been here, that is what the gaffer does with a small group of players here. Everyone wants to feel wanted in their career and when Mick McCarthy says that to you it makes you feel really good.”

Pringle made his Town debut in the 2-1 defeat at Bristol City and will be hoping for a better outcome tonight when he lines up against Championship pacesetters Hull in his first home appearances.

He said: “I can’t wait for my home debut. I’ve played here before with Rotherham so I know the stadium and what the atmosphere is about, so it should be good.

“It will be a tough game but with the players we have in the squad and the style we like to play, we should have enough for anyone.”

Pringle has earned a reputation as a busy midfield man, whether operating centrally or on the left, and is keen to play as many games as possible before returning to Craven Cottage.

He made his debut in the recent 2-1 defeat at Bristol City and added: “Coming here I wanted to play as many games as I could and it was a nice start to be thrown in straight away. Now I’m just looking forward now to trying to play as many games as possible.

“I think I did quite well in the first half at Bristol but the game changed in the second. But physically I felt fine and felt as though I could complete the game, although obviously I’ll get stronger. I’m looking forward now, really.”

Asked what Town fans expect to see from him, Pringle responded: “I like to put balls into the box and create chances, whether that’s coming inside or whether it’s staying out wide and putting balls in. I like to make things happen and get about the pitch, whether it’s out wide or in the middle.

“Let’s hope I can do that and I’m always around the set-pieces, looking to get involved. I know there are a few other boys who fancy it as well so it’s about weighing up what’s best at the time.”

Having seen our set pieces, I think they should be given straight to him. Can't be any worse
