Championship Trio Eyeing Hyam Claim
Saturday, 30th Jan 2016 10:14

Sheffield Wednesday, Cardiff City and Bristol City are reported to be keeping tabs on Town midfielder Luke Hyam.

According to HITC Sport, the trio are admirers of Hyam and are monitoring his situation with his contract up in the summer.

However, we understand that the academy product’s current deal, which he signed in 2013, included an option for Town to keep him for a further season.

Even if there is any truth in the trio's interest, Blues boss Mick McCarthy is a huge fan of the 24-year-old, who recently returned to action having been out for almost 11 months with a knee injury, and would almost certainly have little interest in offloading him and said Hyam's long-term future was at Town when he joined Rotherham on loan to gain match fitness before Christmas.

The former Northgate High School pupil looks set to start for the Blues when they face Reading at Portman Road on Tuesday with Jonathan Douglas beginning a three-match ban for his red card at Birmingham.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough have agreed a £9 million fee with Blackburn for ex-Town striker Jordan Rhodes, who is now talking personal terms with the Teessiders.

Town look set to receive a small sum as a result with the £8 million deal which saw the 25-year-old move to Ewood Park from Huddersfield in 2012 including a 20 per cent of profit sell-on clause.

The Blues also included a sell-on clause, understood to be 10 per cent of any profit, when Rhodes joined the Terriers in 2009 - for a fee which eventually rose to just over £1 million after top-ups and the sell-on - and if the figures currently quoted are correct should receive a further £20,000 if his switch to Boro goes through.

Elsewhere, a Town U15s side was beaten 6-2 by a Suffolk FA team made up of U16s and U17s at AFC Sudbury last night.

I think this is highly unlikely, but equally I have little faith in our owner. If he smells a small fee, who knows he may cash in. I'm sure he's delighted with the potential £20K for Rhodes. This has been a great window for Evans: sell on fees, higher earner in Parr off the books with a reported £70K received, two other players in Oar and Alabi off the books. In return cheap, poor players signed in terms of Foley and Digby.

If he's aloud to run his contract down and go it just proves that ME has no ambition with 'his' club

@jas I am no fan of Evans but to be fair the bids he rejected on McGoldrick and Murphy both showed proper ambition so if Hyam goes it would seem that would be Micks decision rather than ME.

I am beginning to suspect that MM is under pressure to reduce the squad.

This would be and article contrived by Like Hyam's agent in order to generate a frenzy in the town camp and to increase his salary. Fairly standard these days.

When we sold Rhodes I belive it was Keane who said it's a good deal for the club and that's reflected in the amount we've got for him and what will come in from him in the future.

There goes Roy's psycic hotline then.

Mick clearly is not under pressure to reduce the size of the squad. One out one in REF Parr and clearly we are at least looking to replace Oar in some capacity. Whether that's Thomas remains to be seen.

None the less such staments needlessly increase the alright heightened sense of paranoia amongst certain sections of the town Faithful when clearly it is a baseless statement.

Let's put the Jamaican Woodbine's away folks, whilst I see the need for some to chill out doing so at the risk of increased paranoia I feel is foolhardy

I know your gonna be mad, but I say sell him if it's for a acceptable sum and use the money to buy a attacking midfielder with an eye for a pass or shot.
I was one of the few who said we should sell McGoldrick when the offer came in from Leicester but I wanted to keep Murphy this season.

Agree with most people would be very surprised if anything other than a new contact happened. Mick is a big fan of Hyam and he won't want him going anywhere.

Not a premiership player but would need to spend money to replace him with someone better . So not sure about this story but as long as we sign Ramsey or Dier to replace him no probs .

I always felt that Rhodes priced himself out of the premiership with the move to Blackburn who never looked like getting promoted. Middlesbrough are pretty much there and I'm sure Rhodes will get his shot at the big league. Hopefully I'll being seeing him on motd next season!

FFP. does not seem to affect the likes of Middlesbrough ???? with there spending spree !!!!
The only way to punish these clubs is to deduct Points ???? because fines do not seem to affect them
IF they ever pay them ???

Well guys it looks like we have not got a saturday game at home until the 5th March with Blackburn going through to the next round so tuesdays is going to be our home nights in Feb.

There's every chance Hyam would be wanted, and he will do well wherever he may go.. Pratley in would be decent replacement or addition..

According to the press Cardiff flogged Mason to Wolves due to FFP, how on earth Borough can shell out 12 million without breaking them is another matter.

Perhaps they figure they are going up so can get away with it, as long as they remain a Premium club the FL can't punish them. If they were to get relegated that would leave them in a QPR type situation.

I do rather feel that Football is to blame for the entire FFP mess, it's all very well baying for the club to spend but at the end of the day you are berating them for playing by the rules. Football has to collectively address the issue of finance in the game, the club didn't make the rules, the club didn't ask for FFP. The club has obeyed the rules laid down by the relevant authorities, the club tightened it's belt considerably by ensuring it was complies in anticipation of laws being enforced and it appears the club is punished for doing so, this is plainly wrong.

But instead of having a go at Evans, who has (regardless of whether you want him to spend more or not) sunk an awful lot of money into the club, should we not all be shouting at the FA, PL, FL, UEFA and FIFA to sort out the mess that they have created, to address not just the corruption that has blighted the game under blatter but also to address rules that are by their very nature designed to give an advantage to bigger clubs and also at the press for failing to ask the same questions about FFP that it has of football's governance, by not doing so they are compliant in allowing it to continue.

Its all very well having a pop at the owner but if you'd sunk that kind of cash into something would you be so keen to keep throwing it at the problem? It's much easier spending someone else's money.

Football is the problem here, not the club, which is only doing what is required of it, now If football would do the same I'm sure we'd all be a lot happier.

If we had any ambition Hyam would not even be in the squad, Div 1 player at best. As it is he will probably be Boring Billys first name on Tuesdays team sheet. Oh good! another £20,000 into the Evans PLC account.

On a positive note it looks like none of our key players are attracting any transfer speculation this time around. Whether this is due to the fact they are committed to long term deals (thanks to proper management of contracts) or their current form is up for debate. We need true blues like Hyam to stay but PLEASE get someone in who can pick out a FORWARD pass.

How can we insert a clause to get money from the Rhodes deal after he left Huddersfield? Surely they have inserted a clause for sell on fees from Blackburn that we're not entitled to? Am I missing something?
