Jerome Thomas Training With Town
Wednesday, 27th Jan 2016 11:45

TWTD understands that former Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Charlton and West Brom winger Jerome Thomas is training with the Blues.

The 32-year-old is a free agent having left Palace at the end of last season. In September the Londoner was training with Hearts but the player and the SPL club failed to agree terms.

Thomas started his career with Arsenal’s academy but he made only one start and two sub appearances for the Gunners.

He moved to QPR on loan in 2002 before departing for then-Premier League Charlton on a permanent basis in 2004.

Four years later he joined Portsmouth, also then in the top flight, initially on loan, before a spell at West Brom between 2009 and 2013, which also included a stint on loan at Leeds.

He joined the Eagles in the summer of 2013 but made only four starts and eight sub appearances - one start and two sub appearances last season - before departing last summer.

The Blues are understood to have arranged a behind-closed-doors U21s friendly at some point this week and Thomas could well be involved.

Town lost a winger last week with Australian international Tommy Oar asking to have his contract terminated having failed to settle with the Blues. The 24-year-old is expected to join a club in China.

Look he's only 32 and hasn't played for ages so ideal for MM plans!!
It beggars belief that MM/ME aren't looking at players that will make a real difference but if this all we're going to get then barring any miracles Town are heading for mid-table. Very disappointing that ME is happy or maybe he's just waiting for a buyer as he's clearly got no desire to see Town succeed

Oh dear, looks as though this club is becoming home to over 30's who are not able to get a club during the last 6 months.

This mindset is now leading me to believe that the club is no longer serious about promotion, for this season at least ; otherwise why even consider these waifs and strays.
I could understand it if the club was in Div 1 or 2,but really is the clubs finances in such a dire state that they cannot afford to pay out anything at all now,and are prepared to look at a player who only has managed one start and two sub appearances in 18 MONTHS

The kind of money that Mick has been allowed/wanted to pay out in fees is similar now to the 1980's which I find mind blowing.Notice now that no longer use the excuse of FFP.

If Mr McCarthy manages to get promotion with this squad to the Premier league then he will prove what a terrific Manager he is;but if he fails then everybody will say that he did not have the backing;so he wins either way.

I just don,t get it, i seem to remember we have been down this road before, aging journeymen, a team full of experience of yesteryears, nil pace, nil desire just finishing their careers with a nice little earner, the Paul Jewell theory i recall! we need younger eager to prove themselves, quick feet, i dunno losing heart by the day!

Who knows if he is worth a punt - MM/TC will judge.

Bigger issue, as evidenced by the majority of Posts, is that whilst ME has found his long term manager, they are in danger of losing the supporters too. Results will dictate, but a barren transfer window just puts more pressure on the players and management......and you see what happens when they put themselves under pressure last Saturday.

Not suggesting a spending spree, but some evidence that we are doing right by the Club and Supporters rather than trying to complete some weird experiment by turning dross into Premiership Gold

scott91.. Robinson is signed as a back up keeper better than either of ours , Kermorgant played the whole of last season in the championship scoring 17 goals , Williams has played 10 games this season for Forest , Graham 10 games as you said good point !!
Sidwell has spent his whole career playing in the top level and is training with a premiership side compared to Thomas who has no club and played 26 games since 2012 .
Name one player on that list that you think is a weaker option than Thomas , and would say if you are going to argue a post you should get your facts right ?

lord manu. derby have spent £25m and they havent won for 4 games. weve spent sod all and lost , what is it . 1 in 6 games? so money must be the answer. of course we all want the club to spend some money to improve the squad, but doing so guarantees nothing. derby cocked it up after spending loads last season and are threatening to do so again. where did spending money get wigan, blackpool as well. of course it can help, but can also go very wrong.

Start of season we had Dids , Bishop , Parr and added Oar
None have really featured or are gone/ injured
We NEED to STRENGTHEN SQUAD

Maybe all the money went on the new MM and TC Contract

Why??? Again we are linked with past it players and our rivals are competing for quality players and trying to push on and progress!! This doesn't make any sense to me at all!!! We let a good player in Oar go and then we bring in a 33 year old has been to train and probably be offed a deal till the end of the season which is pointless, he won't improve the side!! Oh Well another season in our favourite championship!!! Gutted!!

Other than going to Colchester! has MM or his scouts ever actualy traveled to any of the clubs in the lower divisions to look at any players that are performing WELL for their club ?
Who aren't struggling to get into the side or in need of a contract.

I do not want us to sign Sidwell, Graham, Kermogant etc- big wages, loan signings - big expectations but will they really care?
Ipswich is really about bringing through the kids and if not that picking up players from the lower leagues and developing them.

Beat reading and lets hope this cloud lifts.

We do not need another back up player we need quality if we are serious about promotion we pay top whack for our season tickets but seem to be signing inferior players that cannot get into any other promotion hunting teams.

MickMills ... Agree with your sentiment about loan signings and not caring but if you look at recent loans and how they have improved teams it is a no brainer . Our best player this season is a loan player , Pritchard carried Brentford , Bamford was player of the year for Boro ?
I think by only signing freebies the club and manager are dodging one as if it works it is a wonder signing and if it doesn't which is more often than not it is no harm done it didn't cost us anything - a no lose situation

I would just like to apologise for a previous post I which I suggested you lot were quick to moan whenever we lost a game. I now except it has nothing to do with us losing a match and you do in fact just moan on a constant basis. Many apologies if I upset any of you with the idea that there is anything in life to be happy about!

He could be a good short term signing.... BUT its does also seem to me the club are happy to be mid table, there is no ambition as shown by other teams. The football at Portman Road has been so poor this season and with all these mid-week games, season ticket sales will suffer..

I think it is time to be realistic. We are not a big club, ME has decided he has put as much money into this football club, and to be honest who can blame him, MM & TC are doing the best they can with limited resources and this is probably be as good as it gets for the foreseeable future. Too much money has been wasted in recent seasons on players not interested in our club so I guess ME wants spending to a minimum, that is a fact of life. Compared to some similar sized clubs such as Coventry, Blackpool, Bolton, Portsmouth to name just a few, we are not in such bad place. Remember, if ME got fed up and walked away, the debts we had when he took over plus those we have accrued since would all suddenly appear again,. He has not written them off, just put them on the back burner. Now THAT would be a very bad scenario. In the meantime, lets hope for the best and plan for the worst!! Getting back on thread, I am not sure this would be a good signing and maybe we should be looking towards some lower league gems. COYB

Lee Tomlin gone to Bristol City - type of player we could have done with - Moncur anyone ? He is a local boy or the lad from Gillingham - down the road !??

Lets get young lads from the lower divisions!! Someone like Digby from Barnsley. You know the one, he's that lad that has played a game and a bit and now people are offering to drive him back home.
