Jerome Thomas Training With Town
Wednesday, 27th Jan 2016 11:45

TWTD understands that former Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Charlton and West Brom winger Jerome Thomas is training with the Blues.

The 32-year-old is a free agent having left Palace at the end of last season. In September the Londoner was training with Hearts but the player and the SPL club failed to agree terms.

Thomas started his career with Arsenal’s academy but he made only one start and two sub appearances for the Gunners.

He moved to QPR on loan in 2002 before departing for then-Premier League Charlton on a permanent basis in 2004.

Four years later he joined Portsmouth, also then in the top flight, initially on loan, before a spell at West Brom between 2009 and 2013, which also included a stint on loan at Leeds.

He joined the Eagles in the summer of 2013 but made only four starts and eight sub appearances - one start and two sub appearances last season - before departing last summer.

The Blues are understood to have arranged a behind-closed-doors U21s friendly at some point this week and Thomas could well be involved.

Town lost a winger last week with Australian international Tommy Oar asking to have his contract terminated having failed to settle with the Blues. The 24-year-old is expected to join a club in China.

Surely not another player who hasn't played for 6 years ?
Robinson,Sidwell , Knockaert,Ridgewell, Blackman, Hooper,Bennett, Williams , Graham,Kermorgant,Ward,Buckley,Sola , E Bennett are a few of what our competitors are signing so far .
1 win in 6 Parr and Oar gone replaced by Digby and Foley , we fell away badly after the last January window do not see any difference in this one apart from the fact we were top two last year and in a better position which allowed us to scrape into playoffs

Great player if happy to be in as cover and not on a too hefty wage, if not id rather spend the money elsewhere

Well worth a look, in my view. If he comes to Town, I hope everyone gives him a good Suffolk welcome. We don't want him feeling homesick, after all!

Not another 32 year old who hasn't exactly set the world on fire...would rather see MM trawling the lower ddivisions for 23 year olds who won't cost a packet and don't come with baggage..soem hopes !!

It's just freebies and rejects for the rest of this transfer window.
Very disappointing that Evans will not invest the profits from previous transfers in the squad.

Yet another free transfer, likely to be cheap so right up Evans street. Past his best now and not the type of signing I would expect us to make if genuinely interested in a promotion challenge. Ideal for stabilising a mid to upper table finish though.

Surco72- Funny because half of the players on your list have hardly played at all this season, or last season either? Sidwell (1) Robinson (0) Williams (0) Graham (10, all from Bench) Kermorgant (0) Sola (2)
Agree we need to strengthen with better players, but if you make an argument at least get your facts right.......

Good player years ago. Not played reguarly for years. No fee involved. Ticks all MM's boxes.

Hard to really rate him as he hasn't played consistently in so long. Decent player for west brom, but that was some time ago now.

Unfortunately I think it would be another squad filler. A mid to bottom of table championship player at guess.

Money needs to be spent to improve our chances of getting top 6 finish.

Wingers need pace. Our starting eleven needs more pace. I guess he might be faster than Tabb but otherwise can't get excited about this.

Quite decent I seem to remember but surely alarming that nobody has picked him up once released from Palace on a free

Bloody hell some of you. He's only training with us...giving MM/ TC a chance to size him up. We may not decide to offer him anything. but like someone said he'll only be back up. so what's the hysteria.

Can someone explain this constant search for wingers? It's not as though we are playing like Man Utd under Ferguson. Why when Mick is selecting the most uncreative central midfielders for a long time do we not look for someone who can pass the ball in the middle of the park. It is almost like MM wants to demonstrate his search for flair, unfortunately only Fraser fits the bill and has been the single meaningful addition to make the team better. With goalscorers as prolific as Murphy and Sears, wingers should be providing the service that sees us winning games comfortably, however many we concede but I haven't noticed that happening, or am I missing something?

To be honest I cannot remember seeing him play.
We need some additions so would be welcome.
Mick certainly likes going for experience these days. As long as the the likes of Stern John and Rory Fallon don't turn up at Playford Road again 😉

see burnley are trying to get alex pritchard on loan what a class act he was last yr at brentford.... everyone else is getting stronger except us as per usual so i can only see us falling short again its the added quality that makes the difference at the end of the day we consistently do it on the cheap think evans expects mick to do a burnley of a few yrs ago but lets be honest that was a one off!!
like ive said before it appears that we are not taking the promotion challenge as seriously as the rest
come on evans get that fat wallet of yours out and give mick a blooming fair chance like the rest!!

Some of our fans need to get real. Yet another unwanted freebie who has hardly played a game in recent months. How on earth are we 'having a look' at him? Why? We need a quality not bodies to fill up the squad. This club is a hopeless comedy under the guidance of Evans and if anyone thinks that Evans cares about the fans and is committed to make us successful must be totally delusional. Birmingham are about to re-invest Gray money. Brighton have also bolstered their team. Ipswich? Digby, Foley and perhaps Thomas. Ha ha !

Has the club over spent yet on the budget for WD40. Surely a requirement to free up some rusty and ageing limbs.

How terribly dull every transfer window is...Derby have spent more than £25m since the end of last season Mr Evans - it's called ambition. And before you ask, no-one is adhering to FFP anymore as it's probably unenforceable so please don't give us that tired old excuse. Look at Leicester who breached the rules when they went up, look at QPR who have yet to confirm what penalty they have agreed with the League but I understand is only £8m which is peanuts when you hedge it against the new television deal.....we are being taken for a (boring) ride...
