Oar Linked With China Move
Sunday, 24th Jan 2016 14:04

Exiting Town winger Tommy Oar could be set for a move to China, according to reports in Australia. The 24-year-old left the Blues on Friday having failed to settle since joining the club in August after leaving Dutch side FC Utrecht at the end of last season.

Oar’s departure from Town led to speculation that he could rejoin his former club the Brisbane Roar or another A-League side, while according to other reports a Chinese club is offering the Australian international a lucrative seven-figure deal.

The wideman’s Dutch agent Michael Jansen says his player is currently keeping his options open but played down a return to Australian domestic football.

"We are looking closer to home, but that does not mean that we rule out options in Europe or elsewhere in the world," Jansen told AAP.

"As for Australia, right after the news came out that he left Ipswich, there were a lot of clubs who made contact - and not only Australian clubs.

"Tommy just terminated his contract, so he does not want to rush anything. But at this point it's unlikely he will sign for an A-League team.”

Meanwhile, former Blue Nigel Reo-Coker, 31, has left MLS side the Montreal Impact after three years, his contract having been terminated by mutual consent.

Agree with prebbs above .All we get is a Barnsley reject. No chance of any better progress , this squad is doing as well as it can and its obviuosly not enough .

Well he obviously wasn't willing to stay and really fight for his place. I don't believe for one second that him wanting to leave was to do with being homesick. He either didn't think he would ever get a spot in the team, wasn't willing to fight for a place in the squad or just didn't like the club. Whatever the reason, it's a shame, I thought having seen some footage on youtube that he looked a good player. Now we're 2 players down into January and it doesn't sound like we will be getting anyone else in. Worrying times but who knows what's around the corner.

We have had links. Its just a question of time before we sign a replacement. MM has spent some time watching Colchester Utd so wouldn't surprise me if we signed a youngster from there. We've also been linked with James McQuilkin, who seems to be surplus to requirements at Kidderminster Harriers so we could get him on a free. We've also got Mcdonnell who has been fighting for a long time to make his mark in our first team.

Anyone else notice what mm had to say about tommy after he left (in a news story on TWTD): basically tabby more effective on left wing that tommy.

Also, after the Pompey game mm said no one in that team would make it in to the first team, pretty disheartening for that whole line up really...

If he goes to China fair enough. If he goes to Europe then he's out of order. When he signed we already had Fraser and AMN. MM can take time to put in the starting team but once there he will back you. Shame Oar couldn't see it.

What you should remember us that Tommy oar is a professional..like most of us who work he goes to work to get paid and if we don't like our jobs what do we do..go get another one somewhere else and often we offer poor excuses to leave and don't have any loyalty to the company ..it's all about money why should it be any different for a footballer..if you think footballers stay with a club through loyalty you are in cloud cuckoo land ...quality of life /money/working conditions/opportunity for progression just like the rest of the working population they have choices...some would say that staying too long in a job is the comfort zone ..we don't want players in that zone we want players with ambition and if that takes them elsewhere that's real life I,m afraid. .the main problem is in the recruitment dept...Cameron Stewart frank nouble et al that's an area that needs looking at in my opinion

@jayitfc_ - Tim Cahill and Demba Ba are currently playing for Shanghai Shenhua who are just about in the top 5 teams, so it's very doubtful that Tommy Oar would automatically be the best player in the Chinese Super League.

Think it could well have been a different story had he been played a bit more often;so you cannot blame him going to get more dosh either,as football is a short career.

Bit surprised that Club didn't try and get a fee for him,as they did with Jonathan Parr;although presume as he requested to leave,it wont cost anything;as previously with several players where Club terminated contract.

Good luck to him though;but definitely need to sign in this window a creative midfielder Mr Evans.

Please though pay a decent fee,as we have more than half a dozen freebies who are taking their wages;but with Micks policy highly unlikely to get a game;even if they are good enough which is doubtful.

Pay peanuts (or nothing if Mick can help it)and generally you get monkeys, with only the occasional gem such as Kevin Bru.

I suspect Oar will be needed at a team like Charlton, who are currently up Sh1t Creek without a paddle.

There should have been a condition that he couldn't move to a European club based on his reasoning of his excuse

'Shame it didn't work out' - really?

Clearly he thought he is better than what we have got - but didn't want to stay and fight for his place.

Can't see MM appreciating that kind of character so glad to see him leave.

Seasider: I would suggest that Bru is not the only "occasional gem" since MM has been in charge. How about Mings ,Sears (£150000 being peanuts for a youngish striker who scores goals),Berra, and Pitman.

RRanger.Only gave Kev as an example, and I was talking about free transfers, which Mings and Sears were not(although still cheap)Agree about Berra and Pitman.
Trust you agree with nearly 100% of those polled by EADT that we need to strengthen in next week, although I fear that as Mick tends to ignore what fans say,as he has said, and is inclined to do the opposite;but hope not.

Maybe this is the real reason Oar left?

Like some said on here China is nearer Oz than the UK, but still far away from family surely?

Some interesting points as always and valid opinions. If, as likely, he signs for a Chinese club then Oar's homesick ruse does just seem to be that, a ruse, to get away and make a lot more dollar in a growing market (anyone see that Chelsea's Ramires has signed to play in China too now) given that although geographically closer to Oz it certainly ain't culturally closer. I can't blame Tommy for wanting more money but he was under contract and Town could've been due a transfer fee if said contract hadn't been cancelled. He's either pulled the wool over the club's eyes or just as likely the club weren't that bothered to get him off the wage bill for whatever reason (wasn't rated enough; didn't enhance the dressing room). Either way, ta ta.

Don't hold your breath on investment. The people running Town have the club where they want it, no danger of relegation, feeding off the debt interest and reducing their tax bills.
