McGoldrick Joins Bishop on Sidelines But Skuse Fit to Face Rams
Friday, 18th Dec 2015 14:13

Town striker David McGoldrick is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering what manager Mick McCarthy says is a “nasty tear” to his hamstring, while Teddy Bishop continues to be frustrated by his hamstring problems, but better news is that Cole Skuse will be OK to face Derby tomorrow despite breaking his nose at Fulham in midweek.

“He’s got quite a nasty tear in his hamstring so he’ll be out for a while,” McCarthy revealed regarding McGoldrick, who picked up the injury in training ahead of Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Craven Cottage.

“He’s had an awful year, it’s very unfortunate and it was so innocuous. He just went to backheel a pass to somebody and pulled up.

“You couldn’t imagine that he would have done the damage to his hamstring that he has just by doing that.

“Very sad, very tough for him, he’s going to be missing for quite a while but on the other side of that we’ve just signed Luke Varney today so that’s a replacement, a body to come in and we’re back to four strikers again, which is great. But we’ll miss Didzy.”

Skuse was replaced at half-time against the Cottagers but McCarthy says he’ll be fine to take up his central midfield role against the Rams: “Skusey will be fine, he’s fit and he’ll be playing tomorrow. He’s sat out of training just to protect it for now.

“He’ll be OK, I think he’ll have to have it repaired next week. There’s a queue to do that for him, by the way!”

The Town boss says no one else has suffered any other injuries, aside from Ryan Fraser, who picked up a minor knock in training.

“Ryan Fraser got a kick on his calf and I’m hoping that he’ll be OK but we’ll see,” McCarthy added. “He’s just pulled up this morning, it was starting to tighten up. I think he’ll be all right to be involved. Other than that we’re OK.

Winger Larsen Touré has been out with a groin problem but McCarthy says the Guinean international isn’t far away from a return to the squad: “Larsen will be another couple of weeks, he had a really nasty groin injury.”

Having said that Teddy Bishop, who is yet to make a senior appearance this season, has been making progress in recent weeks, the Blues manager says the 19-year-old is continuing to be frustrated by his injury problems.

Asked whether the academy product might be involved over the Christmas period, McCarthy said: “No, his hamstring is still bothering him. When’s he likely to be back? How long is a piece of string?

“It’s very, very sad with him because he keeps getting back to a certain point where he comes out and trains.

“We’re very thorough, our physio department are excellent, Matt Byard and his team are great, and the docs. And we send him to the best specialists to get him looked at.

"So it’s very frustrating for him, very sad for him because he’s a talented player and very frustrating for the medical team and for me because I’ve got a fantastic young talent that I can’t select at the minute.”

Get rid of both under breach of contract : not suitably fit human beings to play professional football.

Surprise surprise yet again. I knew it wouldn't be long!! I seriously think there is something going on with mcgoldrick that hasn't surfaced yet he's always injured all of a sudden then he is for then injured again!! He never even looks interested even when he 'was our best player' we should've snapped Leicester's hands off when they offered they '7.5million' for him because atm I wouldn't say he is worth 750k let alone 7.5 million. He didn't look interested at mk dons he had the chance to run down and maybe get a 1 on1 and even the commentators said he looked slow!!! Get rid of him now I think he gets too many so called injuries and tbh we've played better without him!!!

Its clear his body cannot stand up to the rigours of a high tempo work ethic ,on match day and in training. Always thought he was lazy at his previous clubs ,but maybe he was managing his body in less demanding clubs. MM was blood sweat and tears , some can handle that and some can't . Maybe the really skilful ones can't ,didx bishop , bru struggles . Might be something in what I'm saying.

I don't think didz is 1 of the more naturally fit players we have in the squad. Some players are just naturally fit and if they get injured it doesn't take them long to get back up to speed. I have often thought his running technique doesn't look natural and as Benters said the sky commentators picked up on it. He's never really had pace, but these injuries have sapped what lack of pace he had.

Real shame, both are extremely talented, although McGoldrick has struggled for a while. On the positive side, losing McGoldrick two seasons ago would have been curtains! McCarthy over a period of time has added considerable depth to squad. Pitman, Sears and a rejuvenated Murphy at the managers disposal, add Bru and Fraser for creativity, and all is not lost.
Big game tomorrow, the outcome will, i believe go some way in defining our season!

As ArnieM has stated, Mcgoldrick is undoubtedly gifted but had a shocking injury record at Forest. He was known as "sick note" there and sadly he's getting the same reputation here. Darren Anderton MK 2. It's sad to say it, but in hindsight we should have sold him to Leicester and invested in a top quality right back.

Good player but lets be honest half the time he's been on the books we have been paying him to sit on the treatment table.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but if only we had sold to Leicester when we had the chance!

Bishop's 19, I don't get this hamstring issue. Shin splints OK but bad hamstrings at 19? You've barely begun playing at that age. Only now after 31 years of playing and a bad body posture are my hamstrings giving me problems. Weird.

He's lost the ability to trick his way past opponents and get shots away which he was so good at a couple of years ago. Don't think he'll ever achieve the same level of form again and reckon his days are numbered. If we had sold him to Leicester though when he was good MM would have been slaughtered.

some footballers seem more prone to injury than others Wilshire Carroll dyer etc and when you think of how much £ they are paid and they never seem to be fit I think it's more than just bad luck a bit of a burden to the club after a while as it gets boring imagine how Arsenal fans feel all the so called stars always out injured every season Walcott chamberlain Wiltshire as usual yawn !

@Keanish

If my memory serves me correct Giggs was plagued with hamstring injuries when he was young...
