Former Town Striker Priskin Nets Stunner to Help Hungary Reach Euros Sunday, 15th Nov 2015 22:20
Former Blues striker Tamás Priskin scored a stunning goal to help Hungary beat Norway 2-1 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate to secure a place at Euro 2016.
Hungary, whose players again wore black armbands in tribute to Priskin’s Town team-mate Márton Fülöp who died on Thursday, were already a goal in front from the away leg when the 29-year-old, who these days plays for Slovan Bratislava in Slovakia, cut in from the left and smashed home in the 14th minute.
Markus Henriksen’s own goal made it 2-0 on the night and 3-0 overall in the 83rd minute before the midfielder pulled one back for Norway with three minutes remaining.
The result ended Blues full-back Jonny Parr's hopes of reaching Euro 2016 and sees Hungary reach the finals of a major tournament for the first time since 1986.

I agree with Bedsit on this. It may not be a popular view, but I always felt Pristin was a decent player who could score goals. He was a terrible signing for us because (a) we overspent on his £1.7m fee & (b) the manager who bought him appeared to have no idea what his strengths were, so just threw him on up front without giving any serious consideration as to what kind of service he might thrive on. After a couple of months his confidence & spirit were shot. It was no considence that his performance in that Arsenal game came when our caretaker manager played him in a very different role to what Mr. Royston Keane had.
I was always a Tamas fan. Worked hard and willing to do the graft as well as attack. Would have loved to have seen what MM and TC could have done with him. MOM so many times.
Very exciting player who filled me with hope and expectation in the dark days of Roy.
Has everyone forgot Priskin couldn't stay on side to save his life which is part of the reason he netted so few times? He got caught offside moments before his wonder goal last night too. Seems he hasn't changed but is just as capable of doing the unexpected.
Every time I hear Priskin's name I shudder and think back to the Keane era. Selling Rhodes for £300k to sign Priskin for £1.7m makes me feel sick. Not Priskin's fault obviously so I'm pleased he scored.
Always was a quality player who had the ability to change a game. Good movement great touch excellent technique but for me poor attitude prevented him from being a real star.
When we signed him from Watford, a fan of theirs told me that Priskin was a talented player, when he could be bothered, but that ultimately he'd be very frustrating to watch - and so it proved to be.
He's always done well at international level, though, having scored 17 goals for Hungary. And he seems to have a knack of scoring goals on the big occasions.
Good goal...shame he didn't do that more often for us. He may have been low on confidence, but how many opportunities did he need to score (barn door and banjo come to mind). Never seemed to fully understand what runs a centre-forward should be making. Keane blamed the CEO in his book for paying well over the odds for Priskin, reckoning he was only worth £400,000. Shame he was happy to let a young player go to Huddesfield, who scored goals for fun at all levels, for peanuts. Can never forgive him for that...oh yes and erractic team selection and poor man management and yet the guy still gets paid a kings ransom. He made John Duncan look a good manager!
terryf.Interesting remark about I presume Cleggy, who was thrown in at the deep end by Evans.Unfortunately have now gone the other way and wont shell out hardly at all.
Apart from when Town were in admin 2002-2004,the money Mick is spending now is on a par with the early eighties, meaning he is spending far less than at anytime for over 30 years taking into account inflation certainly.
Can Mick get us into the Premiership with this lack of ambition by the owner.A big ask I feel;but perhaps he may be allowed to spend a bit more in the new year?
Thought I was the only one who thought Tamas Priskin was a good player.Looks like there are at least half a dozen supporters who feel the same way!!!
......... only people void of a Football brain didn't rate Priskin - played correctly under the right Manager, to his strengths, and in the right formation - he had Class.
And I've always said it - from the first game I saw him play for us.
It's been said by others and really think it was a shame that Priskin didn't get a chance under a more understanding manager. He had massive talent but a fragile heart so Keane was never going to be right for him.
