Connolly in Provisional Irish U21 Squad

Winger Dylan Connolly has been named in a 22-man provisional Republic of Ireland U21 squad for Euro 2017 qualifiers against Lithuania and Italy next month.

The Irish youngsters face the Lithuanians at the RSC in Waterford on Friday 9th October and the Italians in Vicenza on the following Tuesday.

Ireland beat Andorra both home and away in their first two group games with Connolly, who has won six U21 caps, scoring the winner and his first U21s goal in the home match, which was also at Waterford's RSC.

Republic of Ireland U21s: Danny Rogers (Aberdeen - On loan at Falkirk), Ian Lawlor (Manchester City), Eric Grimes (Leeds United), Brian Lenihan (Hull City), Shane Griffin (Reading), Jack Connors (Dagenham & Redbridge), Sean Kavanagh (Fulham), Sean Long (Reading), Glen Rea (Brighton & Hove Albion - On loan at Southend United), Tommie Hoban (Watford), Darragh Lenihan (Blackburn Rovers), Josh Cullen (West Ham United), Alan Browne (Preston North End), Jack Byrne (Manchester City - On loan at Cambuur), Callum O'Dowda (Oxford United), Dylan Connolly (Ipswich Town), Kenneth McEvoy (Tottenham Hotspur), Shamir Fenelon (Crawley Town), Reece Grego-Cox (Queens Park Rangers), Sean Maguire (Dundalk), Conor Wilkinson (Barnsley), Sam Byrne (Everton).

Wouldn't mind seeing Dylan go out on loan till December to get some games into him. He has frightening pace and a run of games at senior level would do him good.

Agree. There seems to be a bit of competition ahead of him now, so he needs to remain challenged.

Brian - quite right - he is a talented footballer and saw him couple of times - so quick - Him and McDonnell are both very talented - done well to get them , so do not want to see them drift out of the picture
We do have alot more attacking flair in the squad now - esp out wide
Just need to get Murph back in the zone - he looks off the pace at the moment and prob in 4th spot in strikers pecking order - Alabi will be pushing him soon!( watch him bag a hat ful this weekend!)
