First-Day Cover Signed By Ramsey and His World Cup-Winning Team Up for Auction Friday, 11th Sep 2015 10:40 A first-day cover celebrating England’s 1966 World Cup win, signed by manager Sir Alf Ramsey and all his team, is attracting huge interest ahead of a Suffolk auction tomorrow. The first day of issue was August 18th, nearly three weeks after the historic 4-2 extra-time win over West Germany at Wembley. Lockdales, the auctioneers of Martlesham, have given it a catalogue guide price of £240. The signature of the architect of the great triumph, Alf Ramsey, leads the way in at the top on the left. The players who also signed are Gordon Banks, George Cohen, Ray Wilson, Nobby Stiles, Jack Charlton, Alan Ball, Roger Hunt, Bobby Charlton, Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters. James Sadler, the auction manager, said: “It’s a bit special for all the 1966 World Cup winners autographs to be together on any paper, at any time. For them to be on such a memorable first-day cover is really exceptionally special.”
