Trio Set to Stay Behind
Thursday, 16th Jul 2015 06:00

Strikers Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick and defender Christophe Berra are not expected to join the rest of the squad for the trip to Germany this morning ahead of Friday’s friendly against Fortuna Düsseldorf (KO 6.30pm local time).

The trio are not yet ready for game action having only returned to training on Monday after being given an additional two weeks off with Murphy - who yesterday signed a new deal - and McGoldrick having been in action with Ireland and Berra with Scotland until mid-June.

Berra will miss Town's opening day of the season game at Brentford as he will be serving a one-match ban for his red card in the play-offs at the end of last season.

Meanwhile, former Blues keeper Scott Loach, 27, has joined hometown club Notts County, now in League Two, on a two-year deal having been released by Rotherham at the end of last season.

Can understand why but a bit of a blow for the Fortuna fans not seeing our two outstanding players from last season. Surely they could have played 15 minutes at the end? I'm not sure why McGoldrick needed extra time off as he played less than 90 minutes in the last six months of the season.....

Think McG is a contract run down situation. So he won't figure much this season. We have pitman who is similar in terms of technical ability ,so expect bench time or out of match day squad for McG

Back four options looking really limited for Brentford game right now. Expect a full back or utility signing soon. That said, I think Clarke is going to be a breakthrough success for the first team this season, and hopefully not the only one.

Not understanding the negativity here... Don't want silly injuries being picked up for no reason!
Options look weak for Brentford? Chambers Parr Smith and anyone of the 3 full backs we've got or Yorsworth.

Would've thought that McGoldrick could do with all the match time he can get seeing as he's barely played since January?

McGoldricks family are back in the midlands , he has 1 year left , he won't sign a new contract and will be a disruption in january , personally i can't see him making anything more than the bench to start with ,then out of the match day squads , ideal world is we sell him this summer.

No key players at Ipswich I would like to suggest... All for one, one for all...

Yes it IS worrying that McGoldrick is out of contract soon - he needs to sign ... but then again, could it be MICK who is delaying ?

After all - here is a player who has missed HALF of the last TWO seasons ... can we afford to give him a long term contract, despite his clear ability and value to the team when on form and fit? Agree that we have 3 other good senior strikers who will be wanting game time - so maybe Mick has already planned for his departure ? (hope not!)

Just a thought ?!

Will there be any coverage of this anywhere?

Can understand not throwing them in, particularly as they are behind with pre season, but surely good for team morale if they at least travelled with the squad and involved in training tomorrow? Strange in my opinion.

I agree with a previous comment that defensively we look very light. With Berra out first game we essentially only have THREE senior defenders. The guy from Cardiff has no experience whilst Clarke can't be called senior. Even with Berra we are light at the back in case of an injury or suspension. You really don't want to start the season off scrapping for inexperienced cover for a key position. Particularly after cashing in on Mings. Need a permanent signing to replace Mings, if only as back up, soon.
